I have owned a savage model 114 in 3006 (no accutrigger) for a few years now, but am just now seriously getting into shooting. I know it may not be the best gun for precision shooting, but I was wondering what recommendations people may have to make it shoot better. I currently have a cheap scope on it and that is the first thing I am going to replace. Any recommendations on a lower price but decent quality scope would be welcomed as well.

Re: Savage model 114

I would have to say the Vortex PST line is very cost effective and good quality. Also would say the Bushnell elite series. With a good base and set of rings. Nikon has good budget scopes. As far as the increase in accuracy 1st- a high quality ammo can help. 2nd- is the use of a bi-pod to increase your stability. 3rd- practice, practice and more practice.

Re: Savage model 114

I have never owned a 114 but I have a 110 and the trigger was horrible. The worst trigger I have ever owned. But Savage has come a long ways from then.Good optics are the first thing I would do.Then if you get where you don`t feel the gun is right for what you want you can put the optics on the next one.

Rifle basix trigger is about $100 shipped from Midway, trigger problem solved.

Later you can add a better barrel, that is the great thing about Savage's, so easy to do most of the work by yourself.

Big +1, the Rifle Basix is a huge improvement over the stock trigger.

+2 see my sig for my build specs. All the parts on my rifle will work on yours as well. I love the Rifle basix trigger and it is so easy to set up a caveman could do it.

Good luck,
Merritt
