I've been looking for a Savage 16 or 116 Bear Hunter for a while, with no luck.
Local, high volume, dealer has very Savage rifles, of any kind. He said these are limited production rifles, maybe 100 a year.
I called Savage today and was told that is partially correct. That Savage rifles are "build to order" guns. If I want one, I have to put in an order with the dealer, who will send it to his distributor, who will send it to Savage.
Is this the way of rifle production in the future? (MSRP pricing, no hands-on with a rifle before you decide and long wait times for the build.)
I guess the upside is that they might be able to do something custom with this rifle, such as a longer barrel.

Re: Savage rifles only "build to order"?

this post probably should be in another section
but
by any caliber pawn shop 110
build your own for less
custom or factory take off barrels, stocks , triggers all available
Savages are easy to customize- build at home

Re: Savage rifles only "build to order"?

I hadn't even thought of building my own.
I've only had Remingtons, but from reading found that Savage barrels are very user friendly to change.
With the Bear Hunters at $1,000 MSRP, I should be able to get just what I want for less.

Thanks. Now off to do a LOT more research on Savage builds.
