so just got my savage FCPK 10 back from manufacture due to short throat/tight issue, seem like they polish chamber, reassemble bolt, test fire etc.
well today went to range got a 175gr Federal match stuck, pulling the case out end up spill the powder and leave a bullet inside. I measure the OAL=2.803" before chamber it.
Now i'm not sure i should send it back to savage again for the same issue. This rifle fire fine with 147gr PMC, hasn't try 168gr yet. PMC give me 1 MOA@100yrd so i was pretty happy with it, until i fire 175 FGMM
anyone else has the same issue, how did you fix it?? should I just try 168gr or lower bullet, if it fire fine just keep it? seem savage has alot short throat issue.

I would call and ask Savage what ammunition they used to test fire the rifle, if it wasn't documented when the rifle was sent back to you.

I would have to think they likely used 168 FGMM.

I know many folks are used to the mile-long freebore of most Remington 308s...but a precision 308 is borderline useless IMO if it won't cycle 175gr FGMM.

What I don't understand is the folks that are running these "short throat" Savage 308s with 175 FGMM and are having trouble with stuck bullets don't seem to be experiencing the pressure issues I would expect to see when they fire those rounds.

should I just fire 147 or 168gr, eventually the throat will get longer? i'm worry if i ask savage to throated, they will throated too long, currently i get good result even from regular 147gr pmc

I almost wish I had your problem. I own 3 Rem 700 and they all have long throats, so I have to hand load to 2.94 to get close to the lands. All I can say is don't have it reamed too deep. Get a smith to ream it for the round you want to shoot.

I have the same short throat issue with my new Savage 10 FCP-K as well. I loaded a Sierra 175 SMK at OAL 2.80" and found it was jamming up into the lands. Luckily I handload, so I bumped it down to 1.78" and it shoots great. Good luck with yours!
