Savage swich barrel

Has anyone here tried any prefit barrels for savage? Seems like an easy swap design. They say you can change boltface and barrel with ease. I have the savage .308. What barrel manufacture would you recommend that offers pre fit tubes. I have a custom .260 and .300 wm tactical rifles as well as 6.5x284 and 6.5x47L benchguns that are swichbarrel. I dont want to touch my customs but wouldn't mind playin with the savage. I would like to get a slighty lighter and shorter tube for hunting with the savage. What calibers would you recomend? Thanks

Just finished a barrel swap on a Savage model 12. Rifle started life as a 22-250, but when I moved out of Ohio, there were no more groundhogs that needed killin', so I decided to make a project of it. Ordered a Pac-Nor pre-fit barrel in 308. I was worried that it would be above my head, but if you know your ass from a whole in the ground, you should be good to go. It really was simple. If you decide to tackle the job, you'll just need a few tools like the barrel nut wrench and a go gauge. You can make a set of blocks yourself to hold the action while you work. Very easy stuff. I think I had $50 in extra tool expenses. Good luck.

Not really recommending a caliber but for pre-fits, Almost all barrel makers offer them now. check out this link: Barrel Makers

Have done the switch barrel to my Sav Mod. 10 (308). It is now a 243/260 with CDI bottom metal and Melonited barrels.

Very happy with the results so far.

i used a shilen 1/8 260 prefit on my 308 mod 10 and am very happy with it.

I've put a deposit on a Savage 12 VLP

Will be selling the stock - replacing with manners t2
Selling the barrel - replacing with shilen 1 in 8" 6mm BR - Prefit
Selling the bolt handle - replacing with black savage tactical handle.

Finally mounting a Sightron S3 6-24x50 on it.

Should come up very nice!

Sell the original barrel and stock, should be able to recoup quite a bit on it. You will love the S3, I know i love mine.

Mine is factory as a 308. What are some of the biggest cases you can shoot through this action? They say the floating bolt face is easily swapped as well. I would like to have a heavy hitting round for hunting.

Also looking for a caliber for long range hunting that works well in a short barrel. Something with some umph
