SBR weight

I was doing some rifle/pistol transitions the other day and my shoulders started getting tired more quickly than I thought they should. I am fairly active, hiking, weights, and etc. I was curious on how much my SBR weighs in at. Turns out it weighs 9.8lbs.

I verified my scale by weighing a 20lbs kettlebell that the scale read as 19.6lbs. I believe there is probably some variance between kettlebells and scale calibrations but this seems reasonable. I weighed my bolt gun which came out to 15.6lbs.

How much do your AR15 SBR's weigh? I am not talking about a purpose made lightweight build. No fancy machined out receivers. Something that would be considered duty use.

Here is a picture of my SBR for reference.

DDM4 V9 with chopped down rail to 11.5", Noveske 12.5" barrel, SiCo Saker 556 suppressor, cloud defensive switch mount w/ Streamlight, AMG UH-1, BUIS, magpul slim stock, and CMC drop in trigger. Everything else is stock DD parts.

I was organizing the safe and decided to weigh mine yesterday. Still haven't ordered the optic/mount so I had to use manufacturer specs for that, but it came out to 9.4lb for my 12.5" 6.5 Grendel. That's for the rifle with suppressor, optic and loaded 10 round mag. Not a flyweight, but better than the large frame SBR.

The 6.25" 300blk comes in at a slightly more svelte 8.6lb. Again, that's with optic, suppressor and loaded 30rd pmag.

I could probably lighten mine up by going with a thinner barrel profile, but I wanted a heavier barrel to handle the increased heat from a 12.5” 5.56 and a suppressor.

Almost all of my ARs/Uppers are on the heavy side due to robust barrels.

In PI, they old us that after working out with the M-14 for a buncha weeks, it would just feel "like your rifle", whatever the actual weight.

Oddly, everyone agreed on Grad day.

Same same for the Garand in Camp Geiger.

I do have a 16" 1:7 AR Stoner light-er Upper, and it's kinda on the more wieldy side.

I guess it's a case of, "never tell me the numbers...".

Mine is going to be about 7.2 pounds no mag. Just waiting on my can. 12.5" 300BLK. It is all carbon fiber, titanium, and skeletonized though. Should have stamp this week and I'll weigh it all and take pictures.

I just did a super lightweight build, basically using anything that would shave a few ounces off. My advice is to be careful on the grip. There are lots of carbon fiber ones out there that weigh nothing, but they are not comfortable at all. In the end I put weight back on there just be happy while shooting.

Yea, agreed. I went with what I liked for my grip. Magpul MOE K2+ is my go to grip. Otherwise, everything is else I did what I could to shave weight, still be comfortable, and look cool. Because we all know that is what matters the most, looking cool.

My m4 in Afghanistan weighed in probably at 10-11 pounds, that with light (granted a old surefire, so way outdated and heavier than need be), IR laser, foregrip, 30round of m855A1, ACOG. With a proper sling you dont really notice the weight. Working on the static range you notice is kinda porky as the day goes on. But keep in mind, you using, and moving the rifle around 100X more than I would on patrol, doing that kinda stuff. Patrolling my rifle probably spent 99% of the time hanging on a sling. I also carried a M249 sometimes... so a 11 pond rifle is nothing at the end of the day.

8.6 pounds loaded and suppressed before I added the MAWL and replaced the Aimpoint with an Elcan. That adds 29 ounces so... 10.4 pounds loaded for a suppressed 11.5.

8.4 lbs no mag or bipod. 16" barrel, scope, mount, sling.

Not a SBR but this freshly built pistol is just over 7.5 lbs suppressed with empty mag. I plan on shooting 225s subsonic so a full mag will prob add a couple of pounds lol.
I am form 1ing a 6” can to shorten it up a bit more and that should cut a little weight as well.

Updated:

My 5.56 11.5” SBR is 9.8lbs unloaded.
DD 300blk SBR is 7.8lbs unloaded
Howa 1500 308 with 18.5” is 14.5lbs

Overall my weights aren’t terrible. The 300blk will get a little heavier as it needs IR illuminator and white light.
