Thought I'd post a quick result from my first time shooting this gun; haven't been able to find much data.
Also sorry I forgot the chrono so i'll have to save that for another time.

Here's the setup, pretty simple 16", shot from a bench rest but with only a 1-8x optic:

Range 100y
Ammo factory 130gr Federal GMM Berger
First group, cold bore, suppressed, 7 shots, 4.77 MOA:

Shooting setup, taken right after first group :
100y 1.jpg

Worst group from the night was the last group, everything heated up pretty well. This was also 7 shots, .873 MOA spread.

For a relatively thin, chrome-lined CHF factory barrel, it's unexpectedly accurate for what it is; I was delighted to see that. More magnification could also have helped, I was still shouldering the rifle in the benchrest and there was movement. I'll take it out to distances up to 1000m over the next few months and see if these outcomes are reinforced. Nevertheless, for my purposes this initial result looks promising.

Is that just the factory FN barrel?
Dumb second question. I'm assuming you swapped yours from 308, did you have to change/adjust anything else when changing the caliber?
I don't shoot mine much and I've wanted 6.5CM. This has me excited.

FN is now offering the 6.5CM for SCAR 17S only as accessory barrels: 16" and 20". Last year they ran a limited run of SCAR 17S in a DMR configuration with the 16" 6.5CM barrel, SSR rear stock from the 20S and a Geissele trigger. The 6.5CM barrels come with a new bolt and small diameter firing. And yes, they're expensive.
That new bolt is for everything now. They discontinued the older bolt. I wish I could have an older bolt and firing pin.

Is there a durability or functional problem with the newer bolts?
Idk? Shouldn’t be. Why do you ask? It’s a high pressure bolt. I wanted an older bolt and firing pin for my 17S, but since they discontinued older I bought new and new firing pin. Never tried it but shouldn’t be an issue

Simply was curious as to why you preferred having an older bolt. Thought that perhaps you had a bad experience with one of the newer ones.

I have a 20S that was originally in 6.5. Got it when they were still pretty new to the scene. It popped primers like crazy, and FN was cool and swapped my barrel to a .308 one. Haven’t really played with it much since. Got it to make noise for my job, lol.

I thought it was the older firing pin popping holes in the primer which was due for the change? Idk? I could see the new slimmmer doing it? But if that was the case they’d have continued producing the older

That’s my understanding. Similar to other manufacturers making the transition to a smaller firing pin aperture in the bolt face because of the increased 6.5cm pressure. Anyway, pardon my confusion. I read your post as potentially being a red flag against me purchasing another 6.5 barrel at some point. I’m in no rush at all though.

No not dissuading anyone. I had to buy the smaller firing pin and bolt. I bought that and a return spring and cam pin. As those are the only things needing to replace IF anything needs replacing due to wear other than a barrel. But I only have about 1000rds through mine. 80k more to go hahaha

Nice!!!

How does your fired brass look?

I shot a 10rd group back to back with 1.05” moa. Handloads. I’ve yet to repeat it? But of course the rifle is far more accurate than the shooter. And that’s with minim of 7-8 reloads out of that brass
So it doesn’t chew up the base or blow out primer pockets?

That’s pretty fantastic! I went with the 13” Scar 17 barrel to replace my 16”. It’s sub MOA with both of my handloads. I’m using 125 grain Controlled Chaos for the SBR and used 168 grain SMKs in the 16”. Did you swap to the Geissele trigger? Huge improvement.
