So I’m having a hard time deciding which rifle to buy, I had the scar in the past and loved it, like an idiot I sold it due to moving and now prices are jacked up. I’ve never gotten my hand on a REPR.

Repr would be 16” barrel and it’s new for $2200 possibly less.

Scar 17 New $2950.

Since you've already had the SCAR, get the REPR and see how you like it. If you don't like it, you can always resell it and get the SCAR. If you don't get the REPR you'll always be wondering in the back of your mind if you were missing out.

So I currently own a scar 17 and used to own an older 20inch repr with the four position gas block. It was well built and accuracy was 1.5 moa at a 100yds if i was lazy, at best all snugged up and shooting 175 fgmm it would give me .75 to 1in at 100. Sometimes it would get finicky feeding with hornady tap ammo but that stuff was also blowing primers in a .308 savage i had. I sold the repr to fund a bolt gun build. The scar feels a lot lighter than the repr but its a tough call, since you're looking at a 16 inch model repr it might be the way to go considering you can use pmags, and the barrel has a heavier contour(more mounting options) if you want to run it suppressed. You've had the scar besides the wicked loud muzzle brake what flaws does it have in your mind? First thing i did with mine was install the geisselle trigger.

Thank you for the response. I never had any issues with the scar. I also got it when prices weren’t as high as they are now. I automatically swap the stock out for a KDG stock. I’ve never swapped the trigger in my last scar but I know people say that’s the first thing you should do. I never really took it out to any distance besides with iron sights and I’m probably not that best shot, so can’t really speak on its accuracy. I know people complain about the pencil thin profile barrel. I don’t normally and don’t plan on adding a bunch of accessories so having extra rail space doesn’t bother me. Just wasn’t sure if one was more reliable and accurate than the other. Like I said above, this will be my only 308 so kind of looking for kind of a jack of all trades (I know that it’s not going to be a precision rifle). I’m trying to find out more info on the NEMO XO now. Thanks

I have zero Scar experience so I can't help you there, but I own two REPRs both with 20" uppers and 12.7" uppers. All the uppers are 4 position gas blocks save one of the 20" uppers which has a two position block. I shoot them almost exclusively suppressed with SF cans -- the long barrels with older FA762SS (over the barrel design), the shorts with full size SOCOMs.

I've seen the REPR maligned on this forum quite a bit but I honestly think it's a pretty great platform. They are extremely well built and, although I've only ever shot high quality match ammo, I never have trouble with them feeding unless it's extremely cold. If you're not shooting suppressed they rarely require cleaning -- if you are they of course do like anything else. They prefer to be run on the wet side with respect to lubrication. The side charger eliminates gas face during suppressed fire although during rapid fire you will still get some from the ejection port. The 20" uppers shoot around 1MOA and I have little trouble ringing steel at 1000yds with them.

$2200 is a great price for a new REPR and, as you likely know, you don't lose too much velocity in 308 going from 20 down to 16". If you're looking for a sub-MOA tack driver get a bolt gun, but if you want to bounce 20 rounds off of steel at medium to med/long range real fast, I'd get it. Very fun rifle -- out of a pretty large stable, every time my old man comes to visit he says "let's go shoot my rifle" and I know which one he means haha.

Thanks for the reply! So I screwed myself and missed out on that deal. It ended up getting bid on and sold for $2700. So I’m now looking at $2900 on another new one. It pretty much puts it about the same price as the scar. I’m kind of leaning towards the repr since it has the non reciprocating charging handle and I’ve had a scar in the past. $2900 still a good price for the repr? I know it’s not 2200?

Get an LMT. You'll be glad you did. They hammer and have phenomenal reliability.

As a battle rifle hybrid...outside of a SCAR17...to me..the only worthy AR10 battle rifle platforms are HK, KAC, LMT...I personally have an LMT and that stupid thing just keeps going and going and going. To me those three have been adopted and used in field extensively by MIL/LE and civilians with a proven track record.

Not saying there aren't other good platforms out there...

I have been toying around the idea of potentially trying a REPR as well...along with a 308 bullpup (T7 more than likely as the MDR is still in prototype beta phase in my opinion).

There are lot's of great options in this category, yet I still haven't seen anyone mention the Daniel Defense DD5V1 or the mack daddy of them all, the KAC SR-25.

I think the best purchase in a 762 gasser when taking into account price, reliability, accuracy is the LMT, it's a heck of a gun for around $3K new. Between the two that the OP mentioned, I would go with the Scar simply for the weight, aftermarket support, and resale. They make excellent heavy battle rifles that can still hold their own out to 600m. That said, it's hard to go wrong with any of the rifles mentioned here, they are all capable of 1 moa.

SR-25 is an awesome piece of kit...but I think like you've said...for a little over $3K...the LMT is the best choice as a quality, very reliable and accurate AR10 platform.

I've personally lost interest in DD guns over the years so I haven't dug deep into their 308.

Nice trio! I would reverse two and three personally, but I agree that those are the top dogs in this category.

Have had several years of experience with REPR and SABR LWRC Rifles (work guns) which now mostly sit 99% of the time.
I personally would buy an OBR or KAC SR25 before even thinking about the REPR. No comparison in accuracy or realibility and overall customer service if you ever have an issue.
I have no experience on the LMT so I can’t comment. JP and Seekins are also making some very nice realiable gassers!

I went with KAC when I dealt with that problem a couple years ago, 20" SR25. It's almost a completely proprietary rifle and it's also damn nice. It's got everything you'd want, it's ambi but it's made that way, all built in, no shit hanging off of it or an afterthought in engineering. It's made that way, bolt and mag release buttons on both sides, same as safety. Cut rifle barrels. The one piece keymod (or mlok) tube makes the upper practically monolithic and long enough for any scope/NV combo. The suppressor made for it is one of the best "all around" I've ever seen or used. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. If you qualify for a military account or any discounts (just ask) the prices can be quite a bit lower. For MSRP price, I got the rifle, plus the cleaning kit with the extra bolt parts and ten extra mags. Not bad. Guaranteed less than 1MOA, comes with target. Nice, spiral bound manual. It's really nice and I like it. If you want a more "combat" version, they have one in 16", still cut rifled, but also chrome lined. It weighs about 2lbs less than the heavy barreled 20" and costs a bit less. There's a heavier non-chrome lined 16" too.

If you got the money and are into looks, you can shell out the $10k or so for one of the military M110 variants that comes with all the goodies, a drag bag and a Pelican hard case. Also comes with the Leupold scope. Suppressor and NV cost extra. Or you can get the one I just described for with all the stuff for far less and it's basically the same rifle but newer.

It's one of my favorite rifles, was the day I got it. I'd wanted one forever. It's damn nice and you don't need to change shit when you get it. If you like Magpul grips over stock AR grips, you may wanna change that, but that's it. If you like AR grips, you're good to go. Slap a bipod and a scope on it and it's ready to go. Already has the $400+ flip sights pre installed and comes with grip covers and a couple of rail sections. I think it came with a sling socket too. And a sticker, all the good mfg.'s always include stickers, and I like that.

Yet another one to consider is the HK, it's the new M110A1 for the army, 16" hammer forged I believe with a gas piston. If I wanted gas piston in one of these, I'd probably consider HK. Although you can't get it exactly like the G28 OR the one they issue to our army. Bullshit.

The LMT rifle is nice, but I didn't think it was worth the price compared to others. The MWS? The one Britain chose for SDM's?

The Larue OBR is nice but the waiting list put me off on that one at the time. Same with GAP. And GAP wouldn't customize any parts, even if I sent them to be installed. FN said a year for their rifle, but I fell for that before, not this time, and sure enough their precision rifle was/still is delayed. If it ever gets mass produced. I tried some other SR knockoffs and none of 'em really held up like the real thing.

Glad I jumped on the SR25, only wish I'd done it sooner. And you can get it in 6.5Creedmore now! Get the 16" chrome lined rifle, and the 6.5 upper separately and you'll have two rifles basically. Damn nice ones.
