Hey Fellas... At this point I'm locked into getting an FN SCAR 17s. (If I win the auction). I've been looking around a LOT for good information on it. There isn't much. I've seen a few video reviews that are pretty comprehensive but most are just fat guys with little dicks showing off how badly they shoot. I'd like to get some "real world" wisdom from the crew here. You guys have always been the best place to find the real "skinny". If I win the auction I'll be getting it for $2800 or less plus $25 for shipping. I know... Why did I place the bid BEFORE coming here?... I got caught-up in the hype! Anyway, what say ye about the weapon itself (Besides the obvious "How hard are parts to get?")... Thanks in advance guys!

John

Oh yea, I'll be putting one of those Leupold MKIV CQ/T scopes on it.

Re: SCAR 17...

The one I played with is a very solid rifle. Don't let the BUIs fool you, they are well made, easy to zero, and work extremely well.

One of the things I noticed was I had more of a tendency to put my thumb up while holding the magwell on the 17 instead of wrapping it around like on the 16, and it leads to getting your finger smacked by the charging handle; so watch out for that and make sure you don't do it.

I think it's a great rifle, but I don't have the money to blow on one unless it comes down quite a bit in price.

Re: SCAR 17...

Not sure what your intended purpose if for the rifle but one must really shoot the SCAR to really fully appreciate it. Lightweight, accurate, reliable beyond belief, what’s not to like! As far as the reciprocating charging handle I find it really a non-issue and with training it can be mitigated out. If it really bothers you just move it to the other side of the weapon depending on whether you are left or right handed. The only real gripes I have are the sling attachment points and their locations, the non-spec grip tang that has to be modified for most aftermarket grips, and some of the triggers are not as refined as you would expect on a $2,500+ rifle.

You will enjoy your impulse buy, no regrets. Start buying ammo and shoot that thing!

Re: SCAR 17...

Really appreciate the responses! The purpose for the rifle for me requires some explanation. I want something in a semi-auto that should be relatively accurate. I'm not happy outside of 1MOA. This rifle claims that kind of accuracy. I looked at all of the "AR" type rifles out there but frankly, I wanted to step away from the crowd a little. Don't get me wrong, I still love the AR platform and I know how versatile they are. I also wanted something in a 7.62X51 instead of 5.56. I've gone back and forth over this and POF. I've owned a POF and loved it.

The long and the short: I wanted something semi-auto, accurate, 7.62 (because that's my favorite round), reliable, lightweight and a little different.

If someone outbids me I'll probably go the POF route...
