Quick question, whats the difference between a PM II 5-25-56 LP P4F and a PM II 5-25-56 LM P4F? Looking in the european market and the LM is cheaper, but I don't know what it stands for.

Re: Schmidt question

Actually, LP is a designation of both illumination and parallax. There are PM II models which are just P which are parallax adjustment only, no illumination. I had a 3-12x50 PMII P P4F single turn but have since parted with it. And yes, still kick myself for it.

No idea what LM is.

Re: Schmidt question

I have the LM question in to S&B and will hopefully get you an answer unless someone else gets it first.

Re: Schmidt question

In case you couldn't navigate through the German website, heres a copy and paste of some of the scopes. Notice the price difference between the LP and LM models, every other option appears to be the same.

Re: Schmidt question

Here is the answer I got from my contact at S&B on the LM subject. Appears that the LM is a non-illuminated scope designator in Europe so that is why it is probably cheaper than the LP version which is illuminated. Here's the email I received back which pretty much explains it:

"In regard to the LM issue, I found out that in Germany they have a special designation which we do not use here in the US.

LM stands for Light Metal - and it actually came from the fact that we used to make steel tubes and then switched to Aluminum or light metal. LM stands for a scope without a built-in rail system, also something we don't use here in the USA. LM-S designates a scope with a built in rail attached to the bottom of the scope which I guess is part of the mounting system. I personally have not seen this before. So LM is just a plain scope without a rail.

The reason the LM would have been cheaper than an LM-S is because it does not have a rail. You can kind of see the rail in these pictures."
