I’m currently running a MDT ACC, prior to that a KRG Bravo. I also have a Manners PRS1. The PRS1 is actually my favorite stock as far as style and fit are concerned but it is too light.

There are a ton of threads on here of people selling their Samson soon after receiving it, with some saying it is too heavy. A quick search didn’t lead me to any specific reviews of the Samson.

For anyone running it what’s the verdict, too heavy? What did you move from and why? What do you like and dislike about the Samson? For reference my system weight currently is 22 pounds.

I have owned/used a KRG, an XLR jv pro, a Matrix gen 1, a Matrix Pro II, a foundation Centurion, and now a Samson. Each and all will do the job. The ACC Elite, matrix pro II, XLR jv pro, and Samson are all the evolution of the brand. The realization of the ideal, designed with competition shooter feedback, to answer the questions raised by the previous versions. In the case of the Samson, it adds weight over the Centurion, balances more weight forward, adds some grip texture where previous models felt slippery, adds some flush cups and a NV bridge and adds a bunch of cool adjustability in the cheek piece and butt pad. And it’s got the traditional stock look and feel. And its machining is impeccable. And it feels good to shoot. And it’s designed and made by the first family of PRS…who will personally answer the phone if you call, say hi at matches, and never run a haphazard Black Friday sale.

I like the simplicity of a stock. I like the Matrix pro II as well and keep a rifle ready to go in one, but there’s something I prefer about not having a million fasteners and interchangeable grips and tensioning screws and thumbwheels and mlock weights and etc. What you give up in “modularity” on a chassis, you gain in well-thought-out elegance in the Samson. Hidden in that elegance and simplicity there is a better rifleman. No distracted complaining about how “the angle of the thumb rest is slightly too shallow and the weight of the “clutch” needs to move slightly forward because it’s causing me to impact left”…. Bullshit. Go train more and be excellent.

Is it too heavy? Not in my opinion. Do you even lift, bro? How about bow kills? 🤣 I don’t know what I’m at right now. At least 22. I use all the weights, the heavy brass rail, Hawkins bottom and mount, gray ops mags, Impact 737, a 26” CRB comp profile barrel and a tangent 7-35. It’s heavy. I like it. It doesn’t “twang” like a chassis under recoil. It’s warmer when the weather is super cold.

Is the Samson perfect? No. The MPA adjustable magazine catch is terrific (handled by using Hawkins BDM which is well made, or GrayOps adjustable mags) and the adjustable bag rider deal on the matrix is nifty as well. I have a super short trigger finger so in all cases, Samson or otherwise, I have to bridge my 2-4th fingers up off the grip to get my 1st finger in a good spot.

I’m not sure about more of them being for sale. This is sale season. As MDT certs hit the prize tables, you’ll see a bunch of those for sale too.
