I am new to distance target/deer hunting. I have bought a 308 fn and need a scope to target at 200 yards. Price is not a real option but I don't want to spend 1500 if a good 500 scope will work. Also I need ring set ideas.

Basically, if u were going to do it right on a budget of 1k, what would u do?

Thanks

Re: Scope and rings

Firstly lets not call 200 distance. Secondly in the scope market I'm a big believer that you get what you pay for. It'll really depend on what your primary use is going to be. If you're only going to drag it out once a year to shoot Bambi then a 500 dollar scope will probably work just fine. If on the other hand you're going to try to get out to real long ranges I'd suggest buying once and crying once. The thing with a scope is that it is what it is. You can't upgrade it unlike a rifle that you can have work done to as your skills progress. Best to buy the best scope you can afford in my I.M.O. Like they say, buy once cry once.
