Scope and stock for myvAAC SD

Hi all. Im new to this site and long range shooting so I'm looking for advice. What scope should a guy get? Ffp? Sfp? Fixed or variable? Im leaning towards a fixed 10 x. My rifle currently has the factory Hogue overmolded stock
Im wanting something in the $200-$500 range. A gentleman recently put in a 1000 yard about 10 miles from my house hence the intrest. Any advice opinions or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Check out the Bell & Carlson Medalist stocks. Great value for money. On the same line, the Vortex Viper line is well liked and very reasonable, plus has a fully transferable lifetime warranty. I have the 6-24x50 in FFP and it's great. JM2C.

Hey man, I started just like you, same rig and all. I went with a "take-off" stock purchesed here from a hide member. I got a Stock from a 700-p model with a harris bipod for $200 shipped. I got the Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 in ffp. Again I got the discount code from Midway which saved me $50 on the scope from here on the hide. In hind sight I might say go with a fixed, I never turn mine down anyways. As for brand/model I'm too much of a noob myself to recomend anything as good or bad. I love my weaver but I volenteer at a local public range and have looked through everything. Your a better man than I if you can see a difference in the Vortex & Weaver.

For a good upgrade to your stock I would go with a used HS precision stock from here. They come up every few days and cost anywhere from $175 bare to $300 with bottom metal. I have had HS and B&C and like the HS stocks better for hunting and shooting steel but might lean towards a B&C tactical style for strictly prone. I choose a Manners over both of those but they are harder to find within your $500 limit

The Snipershide online training here or the DVD would have a lot of useful info in it. I have learned a lot through the site but still don't have either one of those although I should.

I've been at this for about a year with the same rifle. I use mine for hunting and competition when I can get to it.

I stuck it in a B&C and I'm pretty happy with it. I ended up putting a bottom metal on it after my first competition. Top loading was a real pita for me. If I had to do it again I'd save for a while and just buy a chassis to begin with. If you add up the price of the B&C stock, bottom metal, and in-letting you are almost in the the price range of a chassis. And a chassis will have better adjust ability in the ergo department.

As far as scopes. I went with the Bushnell 10x mil/mil. If I had to do that again I'd make sure whatever I got had paralex adjustment on it. Variable power, 5-20x, or somewhere in there would be nice too. While I don't have a specific need for FFP I would go that route on the basis of better to have it than not need it than need it and not have it. In your price range the Super Sniper's at SWFA.com come to mind. Vortex should have a few also. Figure out the features you want and see what fits really.

+1 on the B&C, I got mine off midway with the aforementioned discount, it came in at the bottom of the OPs price range. I'm happy without a detachable mag but I don't compete.

I have a SWFA fixed 10x, but looking to upgrade to a Vortex, probably sticking to a fixed power.

You won't need a high magnification or variable scope to shoot 1000yds unless you really want to focus in on a piece of steel that far. Can't imagine why you would want to do that. If you plan on doing any range estimation with a mil-dot reticle then you want a fixed magnification or a first focal plane variable. You can get a fixed magnification 10x42 from swfa for $300. That will do it or you could always spend 10 times that on a S&B.

I went with the simple option of the 10x42 swfa because I want to keep it simple. I also have the B&C M40 stock. I really like the bulkiness of the grip.

I am building up the same rifle. I went a little higher on glass with a 6-24 PST FFP, and I just ordered a B&C M40 stock. I cant wait for it to get here so I can put everything together.
