I have very little clearance between my scope and barrel. Does this affect accuracy, increase visual heat waves, or anything else? Is there a rule of thumb for this, or just experimentation, or does it even matter as long as it's not touching?

Thanks foeR the input. Mine is probably only 1/16. Could this affect accuracy at all? I need the scope closer to my eye so I'm going to need to get new mounts anyway.

The scope on my 300 WM is very close to the barrel. Probably only a 16th inch. I don't think it has hurt accuracy as long as the scope keeps working. (I'm hoping the scope bell isn't hitting the barrel during recoil)

I had one on an ole '06 that I could get a business card through(~1/64th" maybe), so I figured what the hell: After I pulled the scope, I noticed the nice shiny streak on the top of the barrel and matching spot on the bottom of the scope. Good thing it was a cheapo savage 110 sporter.

Ya, I'm a believer in a lil clearance for scopes now.
