Just looking for some info from experience. I just purchased an SRS-A1 and am looking for my optic currently. Primarily going be a range and hunting rifle. 1000 yds or less. I have been researching optics for a while now but nothing beats personal experience. I am stuck between the Burris xtr ii 5x25 or the vortex pst gen ii 2x25. I am open to other options but both of these seem to fit what I am looking for. Anyone have any suggestions between the two or have any other glass they reccomend?

Looking for:
MOA
FFP
Illuminated reticle

Thanks!

With the 5-25x models, between these two, Vortex is better optically.

With XTR II, I like the 4-20x model a little more.

If you are open to mrad, SWFA 5-20x50 should also be on your list

I am not sure what kind of hunting you do, but with the SRS being on the heavy side, I assume you do not spend a whole lot of time walking around with it. Which caliber is your SRS?

Ill definitely look into the SWFA. I have the 22 inch .308. In the future will likely get the 300 win mag conversion kit. I will shoot this almost exclusively suppressed so wanted to keep the length down with the .308 since I won't be doing any crazy distances with that caliber.

I mainly deer/hog hunt in AL. We have quad tracks to most of the blinds/fields so I'm never walking more than a quarter to half mile usually.

Hate to be presumptuous, but, for the amount of money you paid for that rifle, it is time to spring for more scope than a PST or XTRII. Once you get into the 2.5 - 3k optic range you have all kinds of choices - Vortex Gen II 4.5 x 27, a lot of Schmidt and Bender's have come down into the 2.5k range, and as noted above - the ATACR by Nightforce, Kahles 6-24...many others. The rifle deserves a top notch optic; don't skimp on the scope. Once you get out at the range and shoot the rifle you will want more clarity in the optic, if you get a PST or XTR II. I promise you that much. And, I have the Burris XTR II, so I put it on my second tier rifle - the one that doesn't go to the range much.

100% agree. I would be like buying Ferrari and taking it to Walmart and telling them to put the cheapest tires they can on.

After getting over the initial cost shock you'll be much happier in the long run. I've yet to meet someone who purchased a high quality scope who said they wished they would have spent less and gotten lower quality glass. I have heard of the opposite though....many many times.

Get a NF or S&B and stick it in a Spuhr 4602 or 4902. That's my setup with a 5-25 F1 ATACR. First rifle I've had that shoots in the .1's very consistently with either my 6.5 barrel or factory .308 barrel in it. I'd been told that it was that kind of rifle by a lot of gun guys and internet experts but had never had the chance to see it in person. Bought one and now I'm a believer. Kind of expensive but I've never regretted that purchase. Don't go cheap on the scope - you will love that gun.

Over the last 5 years my DTA has worn, in order, a Premier 3-15x, Kahles K624 and the TT525P (warranty upgrade from the Premier). All were great scopes, I would look at the K624 with the SKMR3.

Running a Razor Gen2 4.5-27x56 in a spuhr 4802 mount ,
works well for me

IMO the toolless rezeroing turrets of the TT525 compliment the SRS quick change barrel perfectly, but I understand not everyone drops 4K on a scope.

The best advice I got when I was putting my first rig together was to spend the money on the scope first and rifle second. I bought a Kahles 624i and put it on a RPR, $3k scope on a $1k rifle. I’ve moved on from the RPR but I’m still using the 624i.
