I recently just completed a Aero M5 18 inch in .308. Aero ultralight canter mount (I get really good discounts on Aero stuff) and bough a Vortex Strike Eagle 4-24x50. I didn't want to break the bank on a scope that I wasn't going to be really reaching out and frankly, its probably too much scope for the rifle, but I digress. I am looking for recommendations for flip caps that weren't the normal Vortex , I will charge you your first born for some plastic, brand of mounts. I know there has to be some great ones out there that aren't $59 for the objective alone. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just use a soft cover that goes over the whole scope or the bungee covers
I have these and they work great, top quality for the price is unmatched IMO and I've had many different brands. I have them on my VCOG 1-8 and Accupower 1-8 worth checking out.......

I've never had an issue with the butler creek caps. People are gonna hate on that but what ever.
I like the Tenebreax on my Schmidt and I do like my Vortex flip ups also

Good ol snipershide. Where people go to get told to put $100 scope caps on their $300 scope.
But for real, what do you want these scope caps to do for you and how much abuse do you want them to take? Decent ones unfortunately cost money and below the Vortex Defenders you might be better off with a cheap bikini cover.

MK Machining on Black Friday sale likely would have been the ticket. I have one set for a Cronus BTR Gen 2 but admittedly, I can't justify the cost on cheaper scopes. They do have a lifetime warranty, fit very well and seem sturdy as hell. I've tried a few of the others mentioned above and they don't last.

MK Machining are my go to for scope caps. I was hesitant to try them over the Tenebreax caps that came with my ATACR 7-35 scope. Decided to try the MKM when they went on sale. I decided to throw away all my other scope caps (including the Butler Creek caps that were actually pretty decent) and get MKM for all of my optics.

I have have tried bout all, but keep going back to the poortex defenders. I haven't found anything better at keeping the fine dust out.

I have been very pleased with the covers that came with my Arken as part of their bonus pack. I dunno who makes them but they fold flat and have been solid for hours of hunting this season.
I never use them while hunting, they just get in the way of everything when flipped up.
For transportation, the bikini cover will do.

I am exact opposite I feel hunting is the time when I need them the most, walking through the bush or the snow that comes during our hunting season it's nice to have the protection.
Pretty sure Monstrum and Vortex Defenders are one and the same from samples I have. You should be able to get kitted out for $20.00-ish? P.S. My personal preference is Tennebraex!

I honestly think the Vortex and Arken are probably made side by side in the same factory (in Chiwanistan Paklimania).
They are solid and have yet to see one break.
I've never had a Butler Creek last 6 months w/o breaking....they snap the lid off VERY easily.
I dunno, never broke a Butler Creek ones, not for lack of trying and that includes throwing rifles in dump barrels. If I ever do break one though, I think I'll get a bank loan or borrow some cash from a friend and spend another $8 to replace it.
As for the Monstrum ones, the review seem to show them splitting a lot and in short order.
I have a Tennebraex that work just as well as my cheap ones, but not really any better. (I'll admit threading on then objective lens is nice, but can also be a a pain with low mounted scopes and taking on and off sun shades)

The mk caps are pretty loud when they snap open and you might have to move them off vertical to clear your bolt knob
Rain, snow, brush, yada, yada, yada, modern scopes absorb it all.
Nothing is as irritating as having to have your scope covers go ‘boing’ when you want to shoot or snag while tracking a wounded bear thru brush.

I'm still buying cheap scopes that doesn't have the water absorbing lenses. Some of them $4k jobbers should have built in wipers.
I was using a buddys rifle and he had butler creek caps on it. I really liked them. I have them on my 22 now.
