Hey everyone,

I've got a SCAR 17 that I would like to scope with a 1-4 optic and I was wondering what the hive mind thought. Right now I have $500 and that goes up by $300 every month. Currently I am considering putting a vortex on it. I love the clarity of glass and zero stop. I love NF but I can't justify the price AND I don't like their reticle options for the 1-4 scope. Any other suggestions? Am I missing any $500-$1000 options? Whatever the scope is it will be going into a Larue QD mount.

Purposes:
Multi gun
Training classes
Coyote hunt
Hog hunt

I have started to look at these now and they look great on paper. I have yet to look through one though. I don't know anyone that has one at this point so I can look through it.

That is out because I want to shoot multi gun. I can't have a fixed 4 power. It makes those 10 yard shots difficult. I MIGHT have 20 shots at 100 yards in one match. The rest are up close and fast.

I've looked through S&B scopes and while they look beautiful I would rather have 2 NF scopes any day.

I might just lean this way. It is down to the SWFA and the vortex. I've been pouring over the threads in here about these two.

Which glass is better between the vortex and the SWFA? That will be my deciding factor. NF doesn't have a reticle that I like for up close so they are out.

Which did you like better and why? I'm leaning Nightforce but that's subject to change, my first thoughts were a Mark 8 but not at 3999.00

I think I am going with the SS now. </div></div>

You'll want to check this out http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2520975&nt=4&page=1

I've used three samples and the glass is excellent, better than the Vortex PST, more like the Razor. I've managed moa and near moa groups out to 700 yards with it.

Re: Scope for SCAR 17

I'm sorta in the same boat, but I think for now, I'm just going to steal my TA11 off my FAL, what I want is the Mark 8, but 3999. is just a tad more than I can afford without selling some other stock, but that would make room for more stuff in the safe

Re: Scope for SCAR 17

I've looked at the Trijicon but I don't like the reticle at all. I like the donut for close up and the cross hairs for longer distance work.

I am nowhere near spending $4k on an optic yet. I almost choked spending $2600 on my SCAR. I love it, but damn. I plan on ordering the scope early July as funds come available.

Beautiful means nothing , they are made to make the job done , soldierproof , rock solid & top notch quality but , obviously , the choice is yours .

PP out

Yea my point, I'm actually thinking of selling my 17 as I dont think its any better than my MWS, and the trigger is allot worse, that also would allow me to put my TA11 back on the MWS, I'm running the horseshoe and I like it since the S&B1x8 is not out and the Mark 8 is $3999.00

Re: Scope for SCAR 17

I love the charging handle on the 17 and the fact it is something different. Mine is much more for multi gun than for long range though so I don't mind the trigger.

Has premier come out with their 1-4 yet? I haven't seen anything about it yet.

Re: Scope for SCAR 17

I have a Elcan 1-4 Specter on my SCAR16 and the Elcan Specter 1.5-6 on my SCAR 17. I really enjoy shooting the Specter. The BDC reticle is very accurate, the glass is great and you have so many options with the Specter... It is a small power optic, and red dot all rolled into one. There are two things I do not care for on the Elcan. One, the ARMS mount and two, the large dot in the center of the reticle. I'd much rather have a standard fine cross hair. Though I had one issue with my ARMS mount I sent it back and had it fixed at no charge, it was just out of spec.

I have owned and used several 1-4 optics. The problem I have with the traditional 1-4, S&B, Horus, NF are the limitations. They are essentially low powered versions of their big brothers. They don't fit the role of a close in optic like the Elcan does. It may seem trivial but does anyone actually use the 2 and 3 power options? No, you bounce between 1 and 4. The Elcan allows for a super fast power adjustment.

To me the Elcan just makes a lot of sense.

Re: Scope for SCAR 17

I tried both the SS 1x4 and the Weaver 1x5 on my SCAR 17. While both scopes are nice, I keep going back to my TA11, I prefer the BAC rather than variable magnification(on my SCAR)
