Morning all, looking for new mount for my Vortex 4.5-27 Razor.
Currently have it in seekins rings that were messed up by cerakoting the inside....... and even cleaning them up hasnt helped.

After a one piece mount as ill be swapping it between my bolt & Gas guns.

My buddy swears by his larue OBR mount and says just quit looking and buy one.
Ive seen people on here when looking for mounts say 'not looking for a larue'

whats the issue with these mountsover say, an MPA/ ZROdelta?
sadly a Spuhr is not in my budget range

Research verticals split rings. Lots of info on them and why people shy away from them.

I haven’t heard anything bad about Larue OBR since it has horizontal split but forbthe money I would grab an ARC M10 QD-L. Love the ones I have.

Some people knock the Larue QR design because it doesn't have a lot of surface area and compensates by digging into the rail. Most rails you put them on will be marred a bit, though it's really only cosmetic. I've used many Larue mounts on ARs and they work well. As far as the dreaded "vertically split ring" phenomenon, I've never experienced a problem with tracking or return to zero with any of my optics mounted in Larue mounts although they were all Night Force, which has a reputation for making a very robust optic.

I recently put a scope in a Spuhr for a recently acquired MRAD and I won't use anything else now. IMO, it's worth the extra couple hundred bucks.

Agree with above. I personally have a Larue or two. I don’t take my scopes off and on much, but if you do, the Larue will mar the crap out of your top rail. Also agree with the “clamping area” statement. The Larue uses about .75” area per clamp, so 1.5” on the entire mount to hold the pressure. Nothing like a Spuhr, a Unimount, ARC, Geiselle mounts. While I don’t have any real issue with Larue on AR-15’s or very light recoiling guns, I wouldn’t put a heavy scope in one on a gun with more recoil than a 5.56. I just think there are better designs out there now. When they came out, they were the heat, now.....not so much.

Also, I should add: I’m not big on QD on my Precision type guns. That is something the Larue has that the other mounts I mentioned don’t. The Larue is made to be QD and tool less. Since that’s not a requirement of mine, other mounts work better for me. IMO and all.

After trying a Spuhr, I too am impressed with quality and look for occasional sales, etc..However, for daily use I like Badger unimounts. While not QD they have been rock solid for me and should cost a little less than Larue.
Even when switching scopes between two rifles, QD isn't required as you would most likely be doing this at home.

I believe both Larue and ADM require to to tighten the bottom screws on their rings first. A number of knowledgeable people recommend tightening the levers to the point of requiring a tool to open it in order to be as "bullet proof as possible", thus defeating the QD.

larue mounts suck donkey dick. steer clear of them for many of the reasons mentioned above.

spuhr, badger, mpa/dloc are excellent one piece systems that stay put and retain zero.

I had a LaRue LT845 and wasn't really unhappy with it. Once I mounted my $3K Minox ZP5, I became nervous about the QD feature, worrying that if I went to take a leak at the range, it would have "QD'd" itself into someone else's range bag or car trunk. I thought I wanted the QD feature because I was going to frequently move the scope across multiple platforms. Along with switch barrels, that ended up being too much of a PITA. So, I changed over to a Spuhr 4006 and couldn't be happier. The Spuhr is just a brick shithouse and there is no way the scope can become mis-aligned. If you can force yourself to do it, I'd hold off, save up your money and buy the Spuhr. Cry once.

Tons of good advise.

Reference the Larue vertical splits: yes, you tighten the bottom all the way, then address the top. While I’m not as strongly opposed to Larue as some here, haha, I think there are better mounts. One that I JUST put on for my buddy that I’m REALLY liking is the ADM Delta. Built like a brick shithouse, and not vertically split. I recommend you take a look. Relatively affordable, and super solid.

Bobro is making a new dual lever compact mount for 30mm. It has a 0.947" centerline over rail, close to low rings so it should work pretty well on a lot of bolt action rifles.

Put a rail riser on your AR with slope that matches your rifle rail and it will be good for AR optic height too.

Ranier Arms seems to be the only place selling them.

I ordered a couple days ago and I think I got a shipping notification so I should have one soon.

Steiner Military 5-25 and 4-16 both in OBR mounts, no problems. NF 2.5-10 in an SPR mount, no problems. Two Aimpoints, one MRO in LaRue mounts, never a problem. Just one guy, but 6 optics in LaRue mounts, never came loose, returned to zero. Never had a tracking issue.
