Rifle Scopes Scope options for SCAR 17

Have a SCAR 17 on the way and I need some glass for it. This will be used mostly for low light wild hog hunting. I will also spend some time with it at the range, out to 400 yards max in most cases. Would like to spend less than $1500.

Priority of features:
Low light performance (with illumination)
Weight
Size
Prefer covered turrets
Prefer SFP

Top of the list so far is the Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-10x56 with the green Mil-Dot reticle. It’s a bit larger than I wanted but it is supposed to be one of the best low light scopes out there. I wish it were only 44mm or even 50mm. I also like the wide field of view it offers at low zoom.

Other options I’ve been thinking of:
Triji Accupoint 3-9x40 (if the 2.5-10 Accupoint is just too big)
Nightforce 2.5-10x32
Viper PST 2.5-10x44
I have used all 3 of these scopes in person and they were all great.

Any 1-6x or a 1.5-8x options out there with a ~32mm-44mm objective to help with low light performance?

Any others to consider?

Re: Scope options for SCAR 17

Razor Gen 2 1-6x24 if you ever head indy ways you can try mine.

I actually don't like the 1-6 magnification for target shooting, it just isnt enough x for me (on an sr-25).

I ended up going with the the NF 2.5-10x32 with a 45 degree rds.'

My SR is for 100-500 yards with capability up close (rds).

Re: Scope options for SCAR 17

Scratch the 3-9 Accupoint. Not that much smaller than the 2.5-10, but the smaller objective lens and smaller tube diameter (1" vs 30mm) is going to completely ruin your light gathering and FOV advantages.

With a correct mount, the objective lens won't get in your way, here's a picture showing how much room the 3-9 Accupoint has with a Burris PEPR:

I'd also look at the leupold 3-9x40 vx-r patrol series of scopes. My dad picked one up for his RRA and I haven't gotten to play with it let. It does have a very impressive list of features through.

Thanks for the generous offer!

That's pretty much what I was thinking. With a 1.5" centerline mount the larger scope won't be taking up that much more room.

Thanks I will check that one out.

Re: Scope options for SCAR 17

The NF 2.5-10x32 has pretty much everything on your priority list covered. Lit reticle, 19 ozs, 12" length and covered turrets if you're willing to go without the zero stop. In fact, I just sent out payment yesterday for one of these to put on my SR-25.

That would be my choice as well.

Re: Scope options for SCAR 17

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like it's between the Nightforce 2.5-10 and the Accupoint 2.5-10.

The Nightforce is smaller, has a wider FOV, and is more expensive.

The Accupoint is larger, less expensive, probably not as robust as the nighforce, but should do better in low light. I like that it never needs batteries as well.

Decisions decisions.

So no 1-6x or a 1.5-8x options out there with a ~32mm-44mm objective to help with low light performance? Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Re: Scope options for SCAR 17

If money isn't an object the NF 2.5x10 is probably my top choice. I was faced with the same decision two months ago and looked at everything out there and came to the same conclusion as I did with a previously owned AR10. The Vortex pst 2.5x10x44. It is perfect for close to intermediate range and $1000 less. I have continued to shoot .35moa out to 600 meters with it. If I were to shoot longer shots I would want a more powerful scope, but then I also would use a longer barreled rifle. A 6x24 power would look a little silly on the scar 17. The 2.5x10 looks really good. I cut the sunshade in half down to 2 inches and it looks really nice. I used a nightforce unimount in 1.125 height which is perfect height although I had to remove the rear iron sight but then I would rather have a lower mounting height than iron sights for a hunting rifle. I also removed the front sight as I thought it was ugggly. I may put a new one on later but with a lower height. I had to use the adjustable cheek in the up position to look through the iron sights as well as a standard 1.5inch scope mount which I thought was counterproductive. One thing to keep in mind is that vortex may come out with a 2.5x10x32 FFP next year from what I have heard. That is what I would put on it if it were available.
