Starting a build on a rem 700 .308. Looking for a scope for long range shooting. I'd like to keep it around 500 bucks. I've looked at several vortex scopes and checked out the arken. I can't decide what are your opinions

Well I have the sh4 which is a step down front the ep5. My tracking has been spot on and the glass is good. In the $500 range your only going to get so much unfortunately. I do think for that price range you get an extremely nice scope. From what I understand the glass on the ep5 is much nicer and if that’s the case then it’s a bargain.

Arken EP5 is the best bang for your $ in that price range for sure.

If u want tried and true, SWFA has the 3-15 FFP on sale for $525 right now. It will track and glass is plenty sufficient for banging steel.

A used Burris XTR II 4-20 is another good option to consider and I’ve seen some for $600ish lately.

Arken EP5 MIL is the answer. Tracking guarantee, lifetime warranty, excellent customer service, veteran owned & operated, good folks. Bought one of their scopes about a year ago, now I have 4. 😂

3x SH4 6-24x50 and 1x EP5. All mine are VPR MIL reticle. 👍🏼

The fact they’re made in China sucks, but it is what it is. 🤷🏼 And they’re great scopes for the money. 👍🏼

Problems with Arken EP5 (which is a Chinese made scope, and China commits forced organ donations, genocide):

You're so pathetic dude... You're hatred for China made optics is as bad as the TDS that the Liberals and Democrats have against Trump. It's fucking hilarious and sad at this point. Someone mentions Arken or MIC scopes, and like clockwork, here you come to be Captain 'Murica and save the day... 😂

There's only ever been 1 thread about Arken having a tracking issue, and it was VERY recent (within a few days ago) and the guy who started that thread seems like a goober who doesn't even know how to sight in a rifle. Posting that thread as any sort of "proof" for your argument is the saddest thing ever. 🤣

Not to mention your level of hypocrisy of just how many MIC products are in your house that you use everyday... I wonder where your phone or laptop or computer you typed your response on was made? The ECM in your vehicles? Most of the ABS molded plastic pieces in your vehicles and everything else you own? Your coffee maker? Your rubbermaid containers that you use to keep food fresh? Your TV? And pretty much everything else...

None of us like China, but gung-ho drawing the line at optics, which is like 0.01% of their production, is like trying to save a sinking ship with a water dropper... 🤦🏼

I looked at a vortex viper that was around 500 anyone have any experience with those
Honestly, the Arken EP5 is better. I have several Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x50 scopes, and have had them for about a decade. They're decent scopes, but very dated technology. The new Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 EBR-7C is a better scope for the money, but it's still only on par with the Arken EP5. But the Strike Eagle is still $250+ more than the Arken. Both made in China, both similar in features, both have great customer service... Take your pick...$550 or $800?

Which Viper? It matters, and I don't think you're going to get the Viper you want (PST Gen2 5-25x) at $500 unless someone's giving you a screaming deal.
Honestly, I don't think the Viper Gen2 is worth the money over the Strike Eagle 5-25x56... Both having EBR-7C reticles, the SE has more features, and a 34mm tube and locking turrets. Just my opinion looking through a Gen2 side-by-side with my Strike Eagle. The guy who owned the Gen2 was kind of pissed, as well, since he paid MSRP for the Gen2, and wasn't seeing his money in difference between them. 😂

I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the pst

I hear ya. I think the glass is probably better in the PST G2, but the 56mm objective in the SE offsets that by a good amount.

I'm betting it wasn't. I'd wager it was an HST model, and I'm with @FuhQ that if that's what you're looking at, you should get the Arken EP5.

Not to be rude, but the advice you've gotten in this thread is pretty darn consistent: get the Arken EP5. There is only one person so far objecting, and it's the tried-and-true "no Chicom ever" objection, which would eliminate the Strike Eagle as well. You can ignore the preponderance of suggestions if you want, but your question is not new on this site, and your research at a Cabelas store or wherever you're looking at Vortex scopes doesn't change the consensus: you won't find a better scope than the Arken EP5 for long-range shooting around $500.

I don't blame you for wanting to shop and do your own research, but the research has already been done in greater breadth and detail than you'll be able to do on your own time. Might as well benefit from the labors of others.

For the price difference, you would think... But reality is, that it's honestly not. I was pretty disappointed in the Viper Gen2 not having all the same features as the Strike Eagle 5-25x56, just with better glass... But it didn't even have that. You could still see some CA, and it wasn't very crisp at the edges. His could have been a bad example, but it certainly didn't impress me to pay more than a Strike Eagle 5-25x56... And honestly, my Strike Eagle is on par with my Arken SH4 Gen2 6-24x50 in glass quality. So I couldn't even see paying full price for a Strike Eagle. Mine was a warranty upgrade from Vortex for a discontinued scope. I paid $99 and got the Strike Eagle. It was definitely worth $99 over the cost of the original scope it replaced.
