Rifle Scopes Scope Problem

I recently bought a Leopold Mark 4 fixed 10 power scope. I mounted it to my rifle and took it to the range. I zeroed it in and then brought it home and placed it snugly in my safe. I have taken it out several times to the range for some bench shooting. (no rough activity.) Well I took it yesterday to shoot some targets to find that the picture through the scope seemed really, really, light. It was almost as though I had a dust build up on the lens (cleaned with dust brush and it didn't help.) I thought well maybe it was the sunshade so I removed it but that didn't help either. I haven't dropped it and there is no apparent damage on the scope itself. Can anyone give me some idea what might be the problem? It is really almost foggy but I don't think it is fog because I tried warming and cooling the scope.

thanks
