i just purchased a savage 10fcp with the hs precision stock on it, and i ordered a bipod, and scope along with it.

now i'm new to this forum, but not new to "forums" in general. i am a member on duramaxforum and have 2000+ posts so i know how annoying it is when people post about the same stuff.

well i can't for the life of me find anything with this search function. even google didn't give me the answers i was hoping for.

so with that being said- the only thing i need now is a base and rings for the gun.
the scope i ordered is a 6-24x50mm, so would i be okay with a weaver base that fits a savage model 10? with say some weaver 30mm rings? would i need high rings? or medium rings if i went that route?
or would you suggest something along the lines of a product like dead nutz? with the 30mm tube option?

i don't want the scope to have clearance problems so please steer me in the direction of medium, or high mounts?

will be shooting out to about 600 yds if that matters, so i doubt i'll need something like a 20moa base, but one day i want to shoot to 800+ so possibly a 20moa base, i just don't know if i want to sacrifice a 100yd zero or not. (i won't shoot 800+ but about 2 times a year. 100-400 every weekend)

new to the long range shooting, but have alot of other guns and ar15's, just not long range tacticals.

thanks guys!!

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

that egw almost looks just like the weaver. the badger is nice, a little $$$ though. the weaver is like 20 bucks.

so neither the round,m or flat style rears protrude off the back too much?

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

Yeah the Badger is expensive and probably more than I will ever need. I do know I will never have to change it out though. If you are getting a new rifle I would have to assume you will need the round base. I believe the flat went away when the Accu-Trigger models came out.

No neither should protrude

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

i thought i would need the round, and yeah it's brand new, just ordered it today at 4 o'clock i'm pretty excited about it. i think i'll go with either the weaver round base, or the egw round rear.

i have also heard good stuff about the burris signature zee rings. </div></div>

I have a couple sets each of the EGW HD and the Burris Signature Zees, but they are not in the same class. Both are nice, but the Burris is not nearly as solid and heavy use as the EGW HD. The EGW I would trust on a field rifle, the Burris on a rifle that gets a little less abuse.

What I do like about the Zees is the delrin insert. I have a set on a Ruger 22 holding a glossy Leupold, and the Zees don't mar the finish.

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

I just looked a the Burris. I have to agree they don't look very robust. For the price I think I would go with the EGW. If I didn't already have a set here to use for my new rifle thats what I would go with.

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

I've been happy with EGW bases and rings. If I were competing, or a professional like many others here I might pay the extra for the Badgers and such, but for all my needs EGW is fine. Seem a good value for the price.

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

okay so i do think i'll try the egw 20moa base, as i think i'll have enough adjustment in the bushy to do what i want, and i'll have enough MOA to shoot out to 1000 if need be.

so egw also makes rings? i can't find them anywhere.

Claudesapp,
I have to agree with you. I will never reach the potential of my set-up, rings included. I just know that is one variable I will never have to deal with.

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

my local dealer is going to let me try some dead nutz out for free, so i'm gonna obviously do that, and if i don't like them i'm going with the badger or egw. thanks for the links and i'll report back on how sturdy the dead nutz are, they're a solid piece of aluminum and look really good.

if they're not up to par i'm not loosing anything, so i'll give it a shot.

thanks fellers!!!!

Re: scope rail and rings questions.

thanks man.
i feel like the dead nutz will be pretty good because it eliminates a connection point i.e between the rings and base. so i would think it would be "field tough" time will tell!

i sure hope i enjoy the rifle, i've never had a rifle that i felt could "shoot better than i could" so it should be a fun experience in chasing groups.
i ordered 4 boxes of federal gold medal match 168gr and i'm gonna try a few others before i start reloading.

overall i think i'll be happy with it.

thanks again.
