Rifle Scopes scope repair shop recomendations

I have a tasco custom shop 8-40 by 50 scope that I bought about 10 years ago. I was using it on my home built 50 cal for several years. I just got a new 300 WM and don't have the funds at the moment so I mounted this scope and went to the range to try out the new gun. I fired the first shot and I had to crank down the side focus knob and reaquire focus. (problem #1) So I know something is loose inside. As I am looking over the scope I discovered another problem. When I turn the power adjustment ring up or down the whole retical moves slightly in the direction I am turning the ring. The last issue is specs on the lens that are visible on the lower power settings. They have been there from the first few shots and never did shake loose. I emailed tasco a couple times and did not get a response. Their website also says any scopes made prior to a certain date are no longer warrentied. I cannot find any date stamp on mine according to what their site says so I assume mine had it's warr. voided.
I know it is a cheaper scope but I would like to get it fixed if it is possible to do so for a reasonable ammount so I can still shoot untill I can afford a better optic. Any recomendations are appreciated. Chris.

I've used ABO a couple times. They charge a fair price and do good work.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just read on the site turnaround is 6 - 16 weeks. I have never had a scope repaired, Is that about average? I can wait but you know how it is when you have a new stick just sitting in the safe.

It's been a while since I used them. A buddy of mine sent a scope out last year and I think it took six weeks door to door.

could you buy a new Bushy 3200 or similar for about what the repair/hassle costs?

I would not fix aTasco. That said it may be very cheap to fix.
I sent two Redfields and my buddy sent a Simmons. The total repair bill for all three was about $100-150 total.

If you can buy a 3200 for that kind of money......

They charge $35 for diagnosis. If the cost is more than $100 I would tell them to keep it and bite the bullet and buy a scope that will last. Super Sniper, Leupold, Bushnell used or new would serve you well for years to come.

If it is a cheap fix I will get it done. If not I will pick up something else. I know most of you cringe at hearing the name. It was a decient scope when it worked. I had it on a 50 that kicked like a mule so I am not suprised it now has issues.
I have a 20 power super sniper on another rifle and it has been better than expected. I would like to try out a falcon or bushnell but with the ss I know it holds up well. If you were in my spot which would you go for? Keep in mind I will be shooting 1000 yards and would consider 20 power the minimum I would use.

Eagle1899, have you used ABO recently, I haven't heard good things about them, (customer service) But I have a Redfield that needs cleaned and Ironsight is 5 months backed up at the minute.

Marty, I have not used them in a few years (at least 6-7). A friend of mine sent a scope out last year. He was happy with the service and price. I would give them a call and see what they say. Tell them what you want done and what level of satisfaction you want. It may be the way to go OR worth the wait for Ironsight. YMMV

Well I sent the scope to ABO after speaking to someone on the phone. I sent it on a tuesday and the following monday I got the repair quote in the mail. The original $35 sent with the scope was enough to get back to functional condition. The tech notes recomended a performance maintance service(replace the o rings and lube moving parts from what I can gather) for $55 additional. I figured it is there already so what the hell. I do not know if the service is really needed or just a tack on money maker. Either way I want the scope to work and do not want any reason for them to not honor warranty if there are any issues when I get it back. I will post when it is back here and test fired.
