Im wondering what height scope rings I need for my SPS tactical 308. I'll be going with a 20 MOA one piece steel base and haven't decided on the brand of rings yet... But what I'm really concerned with is the ring height. I've heard some say low rings are too low, others say they're just right. Some suggest medium rings, while some say those are too high....

Ugh.... Just tell me what I should order please!

For now the stock is the factory Hogue, and I'm not sure what I'll go with in the future.

I'm considering Burris XTR rings but not sure yet... Any suggestions on those too?

I have medium Badgers for the same setup. I believe they are .88 to the centerline. I think Medium Seekins were damn near the same too at .87.

I did a ton of research and I also saw guys saying the low's would work, but I just wanted to be sure I got ones that would for sure work and if I wanted to get low's later I could take my time if everything was out of stock vs. buying lows, having them not work and then struggling to find some that WOULD work. I mean if the .1" difference between lows and mediums keeps you from being able to shoot the gun, I think there are bigger issues at work.

The mediums will for sure work and allow room for butler creek scope caps if thats something you want to run.

Now all I need is the damn gun to come in to my FFL.

I have two Rem's both with 6-24x50 PST one is an LTR in HS stock with a 0 moa rail and Burris Signature Zee rings in low. Plenty space for a BC cap and perfect cheek weld for me.

The other is a PSS in an AICS stock with a 20 moa rail and Burris Signature Zee rings in medium. Needed the extra height because it has an adjustable cheekpiece. But again loads of room.

I have a Vortex PST 6-24x50 mounted on my sps tactical with the medium vortex precision rings (made by seekins apparently). It left plenty of room for a BC cap. I wouldn't mind having it a little bit lower but it is definitely workable as is.

I have the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 on an SPS tactical AAC-SD and used the Badger single piece 20 moa base with high rings, 1.125". I was concerned with bolt clearance but think now I could have used badger medium rings.

Thanks guys, it looks like either low or medium rings will work then. I'm mostly concerned with the chance of the scope hitting the gun, not the base. I have no problems cutting the base at all. I still don't know which ones ill go with though...
