Rifle Scopes Scope slipping in rings

Horizontal and I do believe I had mentioned there is a gap.

if the the larue works out I may well sell the old mount as the maker says it meets spec, but I may try it on the next project and see if my working hypothesis of tolerance stacking is real or not.

Why in the hell do you want to pawn off a fucked up mount on somebody else?

Wanna know what holds really well? red loctite. You might have trouble getting it back apart though.

Years back I built a Low turret mount 98k sniper with the authentic closed rings that required the scope to be completely disassembled, slid through the ring, reassembled, and then soldered in place. After going through all the trouble of disassembly and set up, the soldering iron crapped out on me. So just for the heck of it I slopped in some red loctite, applied some gentle heat to cure it, and then found it was rock solid. For 10 years and hundreds of rounds, that scope never moved through the day I sold it.

The mount was certified as in spec by the manufacturer. As noted earlier I believe I am in a tolerance stack situation and in such circumstances I always 1) make sure the potential buyer knows the story, and 2) give them a great deal. Other than that you can (I am going to stay civil, and have edited out the rest of this sentence, but this kind of craptastic comment by Brux would have gotten him the ban hammer when I used to help run some big shooting forums.)

Should be no need for red loctite with quality components.

Loctite 638 retaining compound seems like it would be better than Loctite red. It's primary use is for securing gears and pulleys to shafts. A little heat will release it. Not much else will.

If you have zero space showing between rings then you may try lapping the tops on abrasive paper on glass or a dead flat surface. It may not take but a few swipes to gain a bit of space.

For a no slip guarantee, texture the inside of the rings and outside of the scope with an automatic center punch before bedding with JB Weld.

not that it will answer your question but my cheap rings that are the correct size for the scope do not slide unless something comes loose and two years in and that has only happened one time and it was because my shooting buddy loosened them and forgot to tighten them back up , are you sure you got the correct rings for the scope you bought ?
