I just joined and I am looking for a good deer hunting scope for 270 and want good glass for a reasonable price,$200-$400 if possible upto 16x or 20x, I will buy used or new. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks, Cliff

Re: scopes

For your budget you can get into some decent glass. Nikon Buckmaster. Leupold VXII, Redfield and many others. The only thing is the field of view for a walking rifle will be crappy with a 16x or 20x. Personally I would stick with a 3-9 or 4-12 x 40 or 50.

Re: scopes

I have several Nikons on my hunting rigs and they are hard to beat for the money. You can even get a New Nikon Prostaff. They got rid of the old crappy turrets they had on the older prostaff. Should be able to pick up a 3-9 Prostaff for just under or at 200. Buckmaster would run you a little more but if you are willing to spend a little more you could even pickup a Monarch in that price range pretty easy.

Re: scopes

If you want something for $200 you'd be much better off going with a Burris FFII in 3-9x40, and if you want to spend $400 a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 is a great scope. If you want more power you can get a Burris FFII 4.5-14 for around $300 which is the way I'd go.

IMO while I like higher powered scopes in most cases it seems like cheap high powered variables don't work out so well. The Burris is a good scope however, and should serve you well. The Nikon Monarchs are good scopes too, but I honestly prefer the glass of my FFII's by quite a bit.
