Searching for a USMC 03 Sight Cover

Almost all you see are repos. They have been making them for a long time and they are almost impossible to tell an original vs a repo. .

I would venture to say almost all you see advertised as real, are probably repo someone's aged artificially.

I would almost just contact Bill Bentz and buy a repo and age it. I have an original one that I know for certain is real and when I set that one next to Bill's I can't tell other than the finish on his new.

These are pictures of Bill Bentz's aftermarket sight cover. The original design is pretty common but obscures the sight picture. I have to take mine off to shoot. The USMC developed a larger cover that should allow the shooter to still see the target with the cover on.

Yeah the Marines wanted a sight cover in place because they had a real problem for bending or breaking front sight blades. Especially in boot camp. The Marines initially created the tall cover because of the #10 sights they adopted in 1919. But carried the tall cover over to when they switched to the #6's in 1936 as well.
