I've lived an hour away from Seattle for 48 of my 57 years on earth. What was once a great and fun place to go, even as a kid, has turned to fucking shithole I would not want my worst enemies dog in.

Holy shitballs you should see Seattle now... I lived there in the Greenlake area when I went to UW to study mathematics in 2005-2010 or so... It was a BEAUTIFUL neighborhood with some of the best restaurants and bars/pubs I've ever been to. I LOVED it. People kept their shit clean and up to par. To be expected for give or take 2000sqft $500k-$1million dollar properties.
Well, went to a doctor appt. there last week. Decided to stop at Gorditos Mexican restaurant (been going there for YEARS, and they STILL have the best Mexican food, well, better than what I had in Mexico! --Not the cheesy canned shit you get in "expensive" ones here, REAL food). They were in my old neighborhood so a common place when I lived there.
Holy shit.
All the way there it was graffiti and overgrown weeds and yards, houses falling apart in dire need of repair (half million dollar 1000-2000sqft houses mind you!) and I just couldn't believe it. Wow. It was SO sad...
"What the fuck happened?" I kept asking myself. Then I saw all the "BLM" and "Fag Flag" and "Woke" shit and realized... Call it "white flight" or whatever you want, but the people that were taking care of their places sold out and now it's gone to shit. Obviously different people, gone were the one or two fairly new, nice cars, common to see five or six beaters at each house now. Lines weren't wrapped around the block to my favorite restaurants either. And the kids at the park? HIGHLY regimented. Only missing brown shirts and ties with lederhosen... Other than the highly regimented bullshit, nobody else was there enjoying the park in mid afternoon.
So it's not the same place it used to be. Granted property had spiked and something had to change, but, well, welcome to the new America.
And I'm not even getting into the PILES of garbage, trash, tents and shit IN PEOPLE'S BACK YARDS along the 99... If I paid half a million dollars for a small, 1ksqft. property, you can bet your sweet ass your freeloading bum ass would experience a tent fire in no time flat. Promise in gold.
America is changing and I don't give it much more time before it implodes. People like to say "remember the good ole days" but, well, from my point of view, which was a bit too up close for my taste this time around, those days are gone and are not coming back without dirty work nobody wants to talk about.

Makes the shit hole I had to move to after the divorce look like an absolute goddamn bargain and now I understand why property prices HERE are spiking --they're all leaving Seattle! Besides, it seems to be where they all come when they get a goddamn day off anyway...
Thinking of buying a spot on the side of the highway and selling $5 cokes and $15 packs of cigarettes to the dumbfucks that inundate my neighborhood anytime it gets over 75deg.F. I know where they're all coming from, and I know they can afford it, especially if they're not gonna fix their goddamn roof, soffit or gutters in a state with the most rainfall. It's what I spend most of my money on now, can always use a few shekels more...
But I do miss Seattle. Used to be the best city in the United States, and I'm not kidding, I've been to most. It was an amazing place to visit, and a GREAT place to live. Now? Well, still better than Atlanta or Memphis or KC... But that's the direction it seems to be heading.

I'm currently just under an hours worth of driving time away from Seattle. We (my family) avoids going to Seattle if there is any reasonable alternative. Traffic is horrible, the streets feel VERY unsafe, and there are homeless camps all over the place.
I understand why the homeless have become such a giant problem in Seattle.
1. Police don't prosecute, or even interfere in drug use or sales any more. So even heroin use is ignored unless there is an overdose, then they will use narcan.
2. Police don't even respond to much less than shootings or violent assaults. Shoplifting and other types of theft are pretty much ignored..often for small crimes like shoplifting, they won't even take a report. So the homeless can pretty much walk into a store, take what they want, and walk out.
3. Special taxes on gun and ammo sales drive gun shops and stores that sell ammo outside the city limits.
With those conditions it is no wonder why there are so many homeless relocating to the Seattle area...and why I avoid Seattle.

for once I would love to see one of them admit they were wrong suck it up and address changes to there disastrous policies correcting mistakes of there past and start putting citizens first , but I would have to be dreaming there is no way in hell any politician could ever do that .

In 1997 I went there for my "senior trip" with a buddy to watch a few Mariners games. We couldn't afford the trip to Mazatlan with all the rich kids from our school, and I wasn't about to ask my parents to fund a vacation for me. I made the mistake of packing khakis and collared shirts.

Federal government will bail them out with our tax dollars. So much fleecing and fraud at the federal level it makes my head spin.
They would save money in the long run if they subcontracted to a few private security companies to clean up the problem areas . These firms can work a lot faster because they are not restricted by local laws when performing their operations.

The police don't prosecute, they only make the arrests. After that, it's up to the prosecutor.
Police many times all over the country are told by the SA what they are willing to take to court. CA is a prime example of that. Even if the SA does go to court, the bad guys are brought in front of bleed heard liberal judges and are either released with no time served or a small slap on the wrist for heinous crimes.

They hold the majority population in blue. 7.8 million people total in Wa. The blue holds over 5 million votes. Their governor, Their senators, their drug problems, their crime problems. It’s not bad if you like homeless people, kicking needles, stepping in human waste. It’s Seattle, a complete shit hole. But to be fair there has to be at least 5 good people over there.
I was three three weeks ago. Walked from King St to Pikes to the space needle and back. it wasn’t that bad. A few tents and a couple homeless but by and large mostly construction work. This must be the touristy area they keep decent?
Fucking smell of Pot everywhere. Still wierd to me to have people lighting up and walking down the sidewalk or the trail when hiking. To be honest, it bothered me more than I expected. I must be getting old…
As to the contractor deal, that’s a slippery slope. You really want someone like Bloomberg, etc. hiring an outfit like Blackwater to come in and “clean up” what they don’t deem as acceptable? Personally, I do not. I’d rather the police handle it, or if bad enough the locals.

This city is crazy. I fish commercial and we just got done with shipyard in Ballard/Seattle. That place has gone downhill in a bad way. Most retail businesses have at least 1 window boarded up and they are all shutting down early. The bums have taken over the sidewalks and shit everywhere. It's impossible to get a morning coffee without losing your appetite by smelling shit. Seeing guys jacking off sitting at the bus stops, half naked grandma's, and needles everywhere.
So we drive 40 minutes over to Bellevue for coffee and breakfast. It's crazy how night and day the difference is. No graffiti, no tents, and we can actually relax on the sidewalk tables.

Wife's nephew is an architect in Seattle, his wife works for Google. They purchased a 1420 SF house two years ago for 615K. Typical 3/2 ranch in a typical neighborhood, nothing lavish. Refinanced a few months ago. Apraised at 735K. When I told him what we paid for our new home, he almost dropped his coffee on my marble tile floor.
I don't have any angst against them...it all goes back to the idiot voters that put that city council in power. The voters are getting what they voted for. City law makers, city prosecutors, police are all doing what the public voted for and decided to pay for (or not pay for). Voters can vote out the entire city council and other elected officials if they want to give notice that they are unhappy.
That is why I don't live in, vote in, or go to Seattle unless there is no viable alternative. So far, I have found alternatives.
