Re: Secret Service?

The hand held versions seems to be a Zeiss gyrostabilzed version, they are 20+ X versions and they cost an arm and a leg to get.

Are you serious?

When ever the Pope or the President is coming to town, the Secret Service does interviews about their snipers. Doubt they let much loose they don't want known. In any case, doesn't look like any Secret Service "trade secrets" are working their way loose on The Hide!

Surly you have seen the recent video where the SS was showing off their snipers at the range?

Sure they are secret about what they want to be secret about just like the CIA.....not necessary anonymous or invisible.

Losing Cheek Weld?

Article that goes along with it-

In the vid, its shows rapid follow up shots and the shooter was removing his head from the stock to chamber a new round, is that good follow through? Would you want to keep cheek weld and eyes on sight / target as you chamber a new round? This is the way I was taught with follow through.

History Channel is running loads of shows on SS and Presidential movements and last night they said many of the new SS weapons were classified but it showed each SS carrying 2 long gun Pelican cases. I think they meant operations were classified, not the guns.

Re: Secret Service?

I found a beauty at the last gun show...guy had it under the table only revealed after speaking with him. I pick up the offical SSM rifle with papers next week. Also had a test target from 1200 meters 1/4 moa accuracy. This logo is laser engraved under the barrel just forward of the recoil lug:

.
Note the explanation was not with the logo only the letters SSM.

THE ABOVE IS A JOKE...hope it made someone smile...yeah its time ta go ta bed.

Re: Secret Service?

Humm, I didn't even know who I was taking to when they placed orders....I figured it was maybe one of your guys.

I find out now the the FBI, CIA, State Dept and a Shush SS got their hands on my cheek rest.

Now I know the US Marshall's, Texas Ranger's and the US Border Patrol has them but that was just because they tod me who the where with.

Guess one never really know who they are talking to and in some cases might not want to know either.

Thank you very much. I am going to have to send one of those to my brother who is MI. Might get one for myself.

Re: Secret Service?

Criver is correct in all info.

Scopes are Leupolds and rifles in general are very plain. Didn’t see any AI stocks, visited the facility and range within the last few months and can say I expected to see more hi-tech stuff. Most all of us are better equipped. They are hard on barrels and change them out regularly. Their smith is top notch and knows his way around both ends of the rifle. It is satisfying to know that the guy who makes the gun is a shooter and highly respected.

I believe they are looking at alternatives to their current ammo supplier which is a shame. The bullet they use is not only accurate but highly terminal and will not pass through on soft targets. They only value it because it's green and they are under a directive to shoot lead free.

Shooters are promoted from within which I find personally disturbing but I guess it has to do with all that Civil Service shit. If I were the Man I would want the best covering my ass. I would want those with kills and who had been in the shit storm protecting me. Guess we need to remember they are counter snipers and what to make their presence known, hence the shiny barrels!

Ammo is not ballistic solutions!

When was the last time if ever any of these guys pulled the trigger on a threat?

Re: Secret Service?

many yrs ago i read in precision shooter about bullets like the ones mentioned above and they were called bubba bullets. there was a picture of norm chandler holding an ar15 or m16, it said that he had just fired x number of rounds into a steel plate at point blank range and the bullets just disintagrated on the steel plat. wonder if these are of the same material?

Re: Secret Service?

Ya know that picture of the shooter. It looks as though thats a 17 caliber hole in that barrel. I'm sure it's a 5.56 but it looks like a 17 cal. The sun shade looks like PVC plastic pipe too......Just my observation......SmokeRolls

Re: Secret Service?

Criver and Crossman are both correct. Bill is top notch shooter as well as top gunsmith. I have had 2 of his rifles and they are not made to be pretty, they do shoot the lights out. I am picking up my third in 300 mag soon.

I think tactical operations (the tango rifle people) are involved. I saw the Secret service logo on bottom metal over there. They make sub 1/8MOA rifles.

The choice of Leupold glass is interesting however in a world where Leupold is considered middle of the road.

Didn't realize someone already said that.

And there was me thinking Barnes......

Sometimes you just got to think out of the box!

Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense to me now.

My bad.

Ran across this old post. Thought i would resurrect it!

The guys on the top of the buildings are part of the counter sniper team.

Rem 700 win mag base, customed to each by in-house smith.

"Shooting civs in the crowd"?

The counter sniper team is more long range. Although some scan crowds, its for communication. If you are in the crowd, you are only max couple seconds from being swarmed by 5 guys.

The counter sniper guys are buildings and approaches. Not crowd shots.
