Watched a documentary that said as deep as 15 feet and up to 30 meters in water (if my memory is still working) and for centuries after burial.

Brother had a friend who went missing while duck hunting. Found his boat upside down in the river. Cadaver dog kept alerting in the same spot, but divers said nothing was there. Third or fourth trip down they found him almost covered in mud. Don’t recall the depth.

I helped look for mass graves in Bosnia. We used cocker spaniels. Those dogs found bodies that were every bit of 20ft deep and burned nearly to ash.
