That being said, holy crap. I want some free NVG's, illuminator, and 7.62 rifles. Why not sell this stuff on the cheap to the (U.S-only) surplus market? I'd like having some of these things at work as much as the next guy, especially NVG's, since we have so much rural area to work in, but I'd LOVE to be able to buy a pair at surplus prices. Way better cost recovery than giving it all away for free, too. Why the hell would they not sell it to us? This site alone would clean up half that used NVG/IR illuminator stock.

I'd be happy to pay good money for any of the SMUD, M21, DMR, SSR, or NM variants. Apparently, they remain property of the U.S. gov't while on loan through the 1033 program. Most of these, at least of the M, NM, and A1 types, are prohibited from being sold to civilian population by the 1968 GCA, even though they've been "permanently" converted to SA-only. That's just disgusting.
