Hey all, thanks for the add.

I'm new to long range shooting but have been around guns all my life. I recently decided to get into long range (1000 yard shooting) and purchased a TIkka T3X TAC A1 in 6.5 creedmore. My plan is for this to be a dedicated bench gun.
I've been looking at scopes and figured i'd get everyone's 2 cents before I let loose with $1000+ of my hard earned dollars.
I know i'd be safe with a Vortex PST Gen 2, but don't know what else would be a good choice.
I'm looking for a FFP with mils and not really wanting to spend more than 2k.
So i know it's somewhat of a subjective question but what else is everyone using, do you like it, is it worth spending more than 1k for a vortex pst gen 2?

Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same situation with the same question. I recently got to spend a weekend shooting a Ruger precision 6.5CM with the 5-25 PST Gen II out to 1000 yards for the first time, and it worked out well! It seems like the PST Gen II 5-25 with the current EBR-7C reticle is coming down in price, which makes me think a Gen III may be on the horizon. Midway USA has an mrad PST Gen II EBR-7C right now for $889. The Razor HD Gen II has been out since at least 2014, so maybe a Gen II is in development.

I'm convinced that if I buy a $2k piece of glass, the new model will come out the next week, and that'll drive me nuts. After getting to shoot with the PST, I'm having a hard time justifying the price jump from $889 to $1999 for the Razor HD, but I'd like to hear from those who have more experience with nice glass.

I'd also like to know opinions on the Nightforce ATACR 5-25. My LGS has a used one with a price on par with a new Razor. I'm curious to know how they stack up in terms of durability.

I recommend this scope. I have used them for any years and love them.

They have been discontinued form current manufacture but they are still available if you search a bit.

If 2K is you budget for a scope, you have many options. I would take a look at the Leupold mark 5 line or the Nightforce NX8 line.

If you can go up to $2k, strongly consider getting a Gen II Razor. They routinely come up on the PX and occasionally eBay for ~$1600 with the EBR7C and less with the earlier reticles. You can also call certain retailers and get them for under $2k. I have a PST Gen II that I rarely use, and a couple Razors. The Razors are far superior and much easier on the eyes.

Both me and my wife have that same Tikka

hers has a Sightron SV 10-50

mine has a Sightron S3 8-32

we each also have Tikka T1x’s with Sightron S3 6-24

we both prefer SFP scopes

Sightron doesn’t seem to get mentioned a lot when scope suggestions come up but we sure have been happy with them.

they do have FFP models. Just wanted to relay that we have been very happy with the Sightron line and don’t plan to use anything else. ( I’ve tried quite a few other mid level scope brands and seems always underwhelmed. ).

they also giv a Mil / vet discount that is nice if you qualify

Used razor or NX8 from the px here. If you can go up to like 2200 there are ATACRs and PMIIs that go for that price here in the px if you shop around.

Good advice here. The Gen 2 Razor is worth the price over the PST.
