Rifle Scopes Seekings 6/4 or 4/4

I am in the market for rings for a new scope for a .308 rifle and I have settled in on Seekins.
What I don't know is the difference in benefits between the 6/4 or the 4/4 cap screw models and how they are supposed to be installed.
IE, 6/4 furthest from the shooter or the muzzle?

Seekins...Seekins...SEEKINS!!! NO "g" in it!!

That said...the most basic reason behind the 6/4 vs. 4/4 cap screws is due to the increased surface area of the forward ring (the 6-screw ring that is) which in turn gives you more clamping force/hold on your optic (especially useful for lighter rifles with heavier recoiling calibers). Most folks I see that run the 6/4 combo rings run them: a) because its OEM for certain mil-spec rifles (i.e. - the SIMRAD attachment point/ring cap); or b) purely for looks.

Seekins rings are so well made that there is more than ample clamping force just about any rifle/optic combo I have used with the 4/4 rings, even on extremely heavy recoiling rifles, but the 6/4 rings are just as excellent if you can't source the 4/4 rings in a pinch and they do "look" cool and give you just a little more juice when needed/wanted. It really comes down to what you want/need and whether the addt'l expense of the 6/4 rings is worth it to you or not.

Happens all the time...no worries. Seems that auto-correct on many computers/phones/tablets sees "Seekins" and "thinks" it should be "Seekings" (which isn't even a word, but hey...who said computers were smart)?!?!

Seekin's also makes Vortex optics 34mm rings for them, same quality and look. Not sure about vortex's other rings though. I have both the 4x4 and the 4x6. Both will work fine for 98% of the rifles out there.

unless you have a .50BMG the 4/4 will do everything and more

Of course 4/4 will do, but 6/4 just looks cool and that's all that really matters. And it just confuses morons at the range who tell you you must have mismatched your rings

I went with a 6/6 on my sako 300 with USO sn3. Just because it looks tough.

I've got a pair of those and they look even more cool than regular rings . Not needed for what I have but they were a good price when I bought mine and you don't see them very often.

I have the 6/4 Seekins rings for my .308 with the S&B 4-16X42 scope. The only reason I went with the 6/4 version was because the 4/4 versions were out of stock.
