I have a 15 MOA Night Force base and recently purchased some Seekins low rings to mount my scope. However, the (not sure what it's called) cross member on the rings that fit into the groove of the NF picatinny rail is too large. The rings will fit on my AR rails but not this NF rail. And I have a few Larue QD mounts that will fit on the NF rail and AR rails.

Is this typical?
Has anyone experienced this before?
Does Seekins make rings that will fit the NF rail, or do I have to go with something else?

Thanks,

Jake

Re: Seekins Rings not compatible w/NF base

Strange, both parts should be made to 1913 spec but obviously one (or both) are not. I'd be really interested to see who is at fault as I've got a set of Seekins rings coming that will go on a Defiance rail.

Yep. Just did the same thing with a nf base and seekins rings. Base out of spec.

Re: Seekins Rings not compatible w/NF base

Same problem with Seekins rings and a USO base. The base was out of spec.

The think the problem is that some manufacturers don't realize a 1913 Picatinny rail is drawn at the maximum material condition, thus one-sided tolerances.

Nobody appreciates GD&T anymore . . .

Seekins works fine on Defiance rails. I have used multiple pairs on mine. Same for Surgeon, Badger, and of course Seekins.

As mentioned you can open the slot a little with a small file. File the rear, closest to the butt of the rifle, of the slot so you keep the front true and square for seating the ring against.

Re: Seekins Rings not compatible w/NF base

If the NF rail is out of spec, somebody at NF should be stepping up and making it right because they absolutely, without question, claim that: "Our one-piece bases are machined to exact Mil. Std. 1913 specification rail dimensions."

Apparently...that isn't necessarily the case.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably do this since I have already bought the Seekins rings and I like the fit and finish on them.

Re: Seekins Rings not compatible w/NF base

Issues like this are why I like to use rings and bases from the same manufacturer. I just installed Seekins rings and Seekins base on my rifle and had no problems whatsoever.

Thanks for letting me know, Rob. Puts my mind at ease.
