OK, OP.. newbie here myself.

Few questions for you..
What role do you picture your SHTF rifle filling. Hunting? Then you'll be using ammo and you're going to want to replenish it. 303 aint light, the 30-06 will be much more common.. neither will be super common as they aren't what the mil is using.

SD - you want to be able to reload quick.. ditch the blind mag. Higher capacity and cycle rate rule here.. only need minute of man at whatever distance. Neither the Enfield or the Axis are "fast". Yeah, I've heard of the mad minute.. compare it to anything semiauto with a drop mag and see which puts more rounds down range on target.

Lets be honest, precision isn't involved in either one of those needs, which is good because there is small chance of getting proper positioning with a scope 3" off the rifle.

What? Did you read the thread at all? There is nothing wrong with the original post and the question asked. The stupid shit is the multiple replies here and on another thread by the OP that literally consist of 2 or 3 words....then another post right after it with another 2 or 3 words. Hell, he has 3 posts on page one that are simply "?". Tell me how that's not post padding.

Not the warning and unfortunatly I read the entire thread. Which shows exactly what I have going on today. I just pisses me off when people post these passive aggressive jabs when people post a thread like this. this is a fine forum to be asking for help on, you just have to ask an intelligent question

and lastly... that "quite alot" (BTW "a lot" is actually two words), is mostly wrong and your knowledge of how a SHTF scenario goes is all wrong, FYI there are plenty of people here that have spent literally years in combat zones, and some of paid attention to what the locals were short on

SHTF basic needs; pistol in common caliber 9mm or 45.
shotgun 12ga
rifle any with detachable magazine also in common caliber
hunting a 22 will work for most NA game remember this is SHTF shot placement is critical.
If the bad people are not coming towards you let them go past no need to call attention to your hide.
Fishing gear any thing that works in your area.
Lots of ammo for the weapons you have.
Food stores so you can hunker down and ride out the mess that will happen in the first few months.
If SHTF you do not want to be out and about any more than needed. If I left any thing out I'm sure other members can fill in the gaps

I remember trying to go my own way. I knew what I wanted to do and essentially asked for "advice" but really would only listen to it if it agreed with the way I wanted to go. Essentially an ego-boost.

I got my ass chewed and chastized about my planned course of action (I maintain a Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 with a BDC knob can't be wrong. I mean Leupold couldn't say it if it wasn't true right?). I ended up going against the grain and while that worked for a while, I eventually buckled and listened.

Best thing I've done. Sure my bank account hurts some but damn it's nice to have excellent reliable equipment that will last me a long time. I should also mention that this applies across the financial spectrum. I've bought scopes from 600-3k based on info and suggestions here. NONE have failed me.

I have since revised my future decision making plans to be as such when I have a question:
1- Search Sniper's Hide for that question as it maybe (most likely) has already been asked and answered
2- Search Google for Dave Muzz's opinion on the topic. It's out there. You just gotta look for it.
3- If 1 did not work, post it in a thread with full details as to my situation, budget, application, rifle, and whatever else is asked that would help people in giving advice.
4- Wade through the opinions and advice with an OPEN MIND (I personally give higher weight to people whose names are green)
5- Buy whatever they tell me to buy!

Dude, read Boston's Gun Bible - he does a pretty good comparison of Battle rifles which is what your looking for in a SHTF scenario. Don't worry so much about the long range stuff. Get your battle rifle taken care of first, get trained on how to use it, then look to the longer range stuff once you can hit steel at 500 yards reliably with iron sights.

I think all threads that have anything to do with SHTF should be deleted and then the first person to say SHTF should be punched in the face by a elected panel that travels to their house and does the punching on behalf of the site.

Nothing makes this site look dumber than people arguing over SHTF rifles. What a joke.

hey, reaper1, if i was you, i'd leave this thread alone. the more you post, the more people will think you're post padding.

i know you had asked a question in you're originial post and you've gotten some advise as well as some criticism. it's you're choice on what to get now. for me if shit hits the fan, i'll just hide in my bunker in the desert.

Its called basic fundamentals and marksmanship. It covers any type of life, country, or economic change.

I can say without a doubt that you probably lack in most of the two categories stated above. It doesn't really matter what rifle you buy, you won't be hitting your target anyway. I would suggest you get something that you can afford a lot of rounds for, because shooting 15 rounds and hitting once is going to get expensive.

Get a Remington 700 or Similar savage in .308 or .223 and learn to drive the rifle. Get a Vortex PST or similar and learn to use the glass. Between those you could handle most any problem you would want. if you become competent you can do anything you could really need with a .22LR and be DONE WITH THIS THREAD
