I know some of the experts on these forums hate these types of newbie posts. And even though I've searched and searched and found lots of advice, I didn't find anything specific to my set up. I recently bought a new Sendero II 300RUM and have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP on order (should get it Jan 4th). I need advice on what mount & rings to get that won't bankrupt me. Looking to spend no more than $100.

Of course - This is my first attempt at long range shooting. Not trying to break into F-Class shooting, just looking to have fun on the weekends at the lease. (Already starting to work on some loads using Retumbo and Berger 210.) Mostly -I will use this rifle for hunting (elk, mule deer, etc.).

Thank you for your advice.

$100????

TPS rings are a good value; but probably if you go steel are gonna cost $80+

If you expect to shoot LongRange with your Sendero, you might not need a canted rail. Depends on elevation range of your scope and where you set your zero. Might zero at 3 or 400yds and learn to hold under for closer shots....

Weaver makes STEEL bases that are a bargain. Also Warne Maxima Weaver bases or Leupold QRW bases. Seems like SWFA was doing a deal recently on Nightforce bases.

Good bases and rings are an integral component for reliability and repeats. Might find a used Warne 20moa base and Badger Ord rings used for under $200. Don't skimp on your mount system if you expect precision results.

And its not like a 300 RUM has any recoil !

just saying, do it right

You will have problems tryin to save money on the mounts.
You can get off cheap but your rifle will not preform like it should with better stuff. If you are hangin a big scope on a overbored magnum with $20 rings and a $40 base something will give. Hey I tried all that myself. thats why I have badger stuff on my .338 . hell you only have to buy it one time. Ken Farrel makes real good stuff also, have it on my .300wm and it aint let me down yet. but you aint gonna get it for $29.95

Re: sendero 300RUM,VortexPST6-24x50: What mount/rings?

I would save up a little more.

You spent 1200 on a rifle and 800 on a new scope, and to take advantage of both you need them to stay together.

I am running TPS on my 300 RUM Sendero and have had 0 problems. Check with SWFA and see what they have.

I recommend going with a 20 MOA base, just because there is no reason not to.

Re: sendero 300RUM,VortexPST6-24x50: What mount/rings?

If that is your budget, I would probably skip the rail and just get a quality set of rings. If you want a base then I would look at finding a EGW base and perhaps a used set of Warne, or Leupy rings.

Re: sendero 300RUM,VortexPST6-24x50: What mount/rings?

I say for the sake of saving a dollar and not sacrificing quality, go with EGWs' base and TPS rings as mentioned above. Cant go wrong with that setup. Also, pm me if you have any questions or need any advice and or load data for the .300RUM. I put alot of time behind one the past year and a half. Learned alot about the cartridge. Congrats on the new rifle.
