I am about to send my 700 s/a to GAP!!! Yeah Finally!!! Heres what GAP and I talked about. Obviuosly a new barrel and true and blue printed action, and the bedding and and pillars on stock. We also discussed Badger DBM which looks awesome and would be very handy, but i am unsure about it. What i need help with is this rifle is really a bench/hunting rifle and i am wondering if the the bager DBM will cause me any problems out in the field like digging into my back or fall out or whatever else your thoughts. Also is there anything else i should add to the to do list while its there? Any help will be greatly appricated since this is the first bolt rifle i sent there!

Flush cups for sling carry on the left side if you are a right hand shooter will keep the mag from digging into your back. Never had a problem with the mag falling out.

I would say do the badger dbm. I don't see any down side to this system. It would allow you to carry your rifle unloaded and when your ready just slap in a mag and shoot on a hunting trip. Flush cups are a great idea as well. Whatever you decide to do you will be happy with the work that GAP does. Just got my rifle back a couple months ago and I couldn't be happier

I already have 3 flush cups so good there. What kind of ammo are you using?

Cerakote barreled action

Side bolt release

tune the trigger

I would suggest you check out APA's DBM for a hunting gun. The mag release is contoured into the trigger guard, not a tab hanging down that COULD possibly catch on something and dump your mag. I have a hunting rifle being built using this BM and don't see a down side to it for your/our intended purpose. It happens to be the exact same footprint as the Badger, so I guess a guy could change them out without any work needing to be done to the stock. Food for thought....

Whatever you decide to do you will be happy with the work that GAP does. Just got my rifle back a couple months ago and I couldn't be happier

Since the most of us measure a rifle by how nice the trigger pull is I say talk to GAP about working on it but if they don't lieke the X-Mark I say toss it and get a new one - Timney or Jewell.

i just put a timney on my 700 and i really like it over my xmark. my xmark was shitty and not very consistent. when i tried to adjust it there wasnt any change. now my timney on the other hand is very consistent, smooth, light and crisp

I would recommend Surgeon DBM over Badger, I have both and defenately a new trigger.

Seekins' DBM also has an ambidextrous mag drop button, it is not a tab.

Another BM that is worth mentioning would be the one from Randy (HateCA) at RD Precision. It too has a mag release latch nicely contoured into the trigger guard and is very well priced. Uses AICS mags like the others.

Heavy fluting on the barrel will help with carry weight and the flush cups are a must just in case you decide to use them, they are already there.

Also with a BM/ DBM system that uses AICS mags you can simply use the 5 round mags which wouldnt hang down as much as the 10 round mags.

Yes, I would get the M5 bottom metal. Like JJ said, I would have the barrel fluted too, I should have had mine fluted, she's a bit of a fat bitch to pack around.

It seems my x-mark is fairly crisp but I wonder if it's because I don't know any better. Should I also cerakote it while it's there?

I've shot a couple Surgeons with Jewell's and while they are nice triggers I've seen some fail in not-so-harsh conditions. Jewell's are target/bench triggers IMHO. I chose a Timney set @ 2.5lbs.

Just because it cost more doesn't mean it's better. Most people that feel the trigger on my gun hand it back to me laughing and smiling because it's unexpectingly crisp.

Can't go wrong sending a rifle to George and crew - they do great work and are all shooters as well.
