Suppressors sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

I have the same issue, except mine was sent august 27th. Transfer from thunderbeast to machinegun tours (wyoming to colorado) still not here and expecting early december???

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

Id suggest asking for a serial number and calling in, I think some dealers use how long it takes as an excuse for either laziness or just plain not even starting paperwork.

My latest F3 took 12 days and that included two weekends.

Nice thing about TBAC is they show the progress on their website if you know the serial number.

Form 3's shouldn't take more than 3 weeks. I'm sure it's an out of stock suppressor. I'm still getting cans from orders at SHOT show in Jan!!!

That is a long time for a Form 3. Talk to your local guy and make sure he placed the order. Then have him call the NFA. That is too damn long on a Form 3.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

I had a form 3 come from Major Malfunction to my local guy and it took damn near 3 months. He got Shipman who is notoriously slow, which sucks for Bryon because he is the largest suppressor retailer in the country.

They have just seen a major slow down, that is why all of us need to be on board with the petitions to hire more examiners and stream line this process electronically.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

My last two sets of form 3's took almost a month and a half. I was told it was because they just rotated examiners, I'm not buying that BS. They all have basically the same job, no matter what region they are working.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

Talked with Ray and Shane from TBAC this last weekend and they said dealer to dealer is average 34 days now with some in less and some around 40ish days . I feel your pain I'm waiting on a 338BA .

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

Not in any way defending the ridiculously slow NFA BRanch but +1 on the guy who said to get the SN and check for yourself.

I have had personal experience with a dealer who kept blaming NFA and, once I checked into it, I found out he was just being lazy and hadn't even sent the paperwork in. Unfortunately, the incompetence of NFA has led to a situation where people can use them as a scapegoat and no one questions it due to past performance.

Your situation sounds alot like my history. That seems to be an awful long period for a F3.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

For several years, we were getting very consistent 10 day door to door Form 3 turnaround.

In the past year, it has ballooned to 30+ days, with some over 40 days. Average turnaround time as of today is 39 days. This is based on all our outgoing Form 3's in a recent interval.

Everything is too damn long with the NFA.

I've got cans pending on Form 4s since early July, and its almost been a month on a Form 3 that I ordered from you.

I haven't figured out if its easier to just stop getting NFA toys or order so many that I have one come in every month

Your answer. Ask me how I know. The rain should begin in December.

I can help you if you want one every month. I don't know what the F is going on. I have seen Form 3s go from my fax to my mailbox in 12 days. Now we are looking ~30+. I try not to apply reason to anything with the government, but this is beyond stupid. Any business in the world who was making the kind of money they are (I know...small time for the gov't) would hire employees to increase revenues. These guys are asleep at the wheel

And why do we have to use a fax? Why can't we jump into the new century and use an E-mailed PDF? That would be so handy- it would be so fast- and the documents would look great coming out of the xerox machine on their end.

For that matter why can't we check the database for the validity of a license and just put the information into a computer at ATF.gov and get an instant approval for a dealer to dealer transfer?

It's a crappy system, but it's the only system we've got.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

Well if you can go the computer PDF route...now that must Law Enforcement Offices have the Fingerprints machines that are soft copy why can't they just upload the fingerprints. Why send it in every time? The system is very archaic in nature but I am sure it is that way by design as to not be efficient. The whole system should be soft copy.

What I don't get is this: I have seen people with cans that were approved on July 7th, a Thursday by my examiner (SantaMaria) on November 17th.

It is now November 30th, and my cans went pending July 11th, a monday and only 1 business day later than the previously mentioned people. I understand the holiday, but thats pretty frustrating. Did they just stop working?

To be honest, the wait really makes me not want to get any NFA items at all. Form 1'ing lower receivers is no big deal. I can wait. But I've had almost $2,000 in suppressors and tax stamps tied up at the NFA since June. Thats a little much for me man...oh well. Its not the first time the government tried to screw over small businesses.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

I ordered my can in March and it took 11 weeks for the tranfer to my dealer, then another 4 months for the transfer to me on a form 4. Good luck, looks like this is the way things are going now.

Re: sep29th, form 3 to dealer, still not cleared.. WTF

Be happy the wait once upon time was measured in years not months or weeks . The whole NFA process from the very start was to discourage ownership monetarily and also from the wait . We are lucky that the tax stamp rate has never been adjusted since 34 to the original proportions . You'd be looking at 1000 dollar plus fees .
