This might sound stupid but I picked up a new to me scope (vortex 4.5-27) that's a bit higher quality then the other scopes I have. It's perhaps the first time I'm noticing but I can either get 1.) the crosshairs crystal clear with the target in focus but not as sharp as it could be or 2.) get the target crystal clear to,a point where the reticle is barely visible.

So question which is the one to put it focus or is it a compromise somewhere between the two? Maybe I need to go to the optometrist lol.

Are you adjusting ocular/diopter? Use that to get reticle adjusted. Then use parallax adjustment (side focus) for the target. Two separate adjustment. If you still have the manual for the scope, read it over as it covers both adjustments.

I played with the diaopter and the parallax. I guess my point was that at closer ranges I can get either the crosshairs or target in perfect focus but not both. Probably doesn't help, that it's 105+ out here and the mirage makes everything look blurry magnified. Had hits at 1350 yesterday with some crazy wind. At 20x the scope looked Fkn amazing compared my my PST vortex, bushnell, or Burris scopes.

I'll mess with it more. Thanks

I usually end up doing s final diopter adjustment at eh 100 yard range with zero parallax on a 100y target. I get the reticle perfectly focused. I always end up a little off when I do the infinity and look at white wall method. That is always my starting point though.

If you can't get the diopter and the focus set so both are nice and clear at one distance then I'd send it back to Vortex.

^ What I described is a little different than getting the parallax dialed out all the way and having a perfectly clear image at the same time. Sometimes this is a compromise which unfortunately exists. Life is like that in a lot of ways isn't it??!!

Having the parallax not totally eliminated all the time isn't horrible. For instance I have a small amount of parallax error in the scope I used on Saturday but I got 48 out of 48 and won the match. I like a clear image and a focused reticle, which means there is some parallax error, so I try my best to keep my eye centered in the eyebox which works for me.
