Short range account of my Arken EP-4 6-24X50 with SHR reticle.
This is a replacement scope from Arken for a scope I acquired here used that had issues. I couldn’t get a wind zero ran out of left wind. I talked to Arken, they sent me a return label and 6 weeks later I received my new Arken. Mounted it with their 0.92” rings on my M700 .260 Rem with 20 moa base. Did an old school bore sight @ 100 yds fired 1 rd then used the mil reticle for the correction, dialed it and sent 1 more rd. Dead zero. I zeroed the dials, set the zero stop. Then removed the scope and mounted it on my AR 6.5 Grendel with 0 moa base and did as before. 2 rds later and an adjustment of 7.8 mil up/ zero wind, I acquired a 100 yd zero on that rifle. I then moved to my 200 yd IPSC steel target. Grendel first, I adjusted .6 mil up from its 100 yd zero and fired 5 rds at the steel target. Dead on. I then removed the scope amd mounted it back on the M700 .260. Dialed back down to zero stop and adjusted up .4 mil amd sent 5 rds down to the steel target. Dead on. I had a favorable grin on my face at this point. I mean the glass on this scope is super clear along with parallax/side focus. Clean reticle, positive click adjustments. You here some say these scopes compare to scope of much higher value. Well all I know is that this $550 (that’s what I paid for it used) EP-4 is doing everything I expect from my trusted $2300 34 mm Leupold Mark 4 and looks good doing it I think. Rating it from 1-10, I’ll give it a 9.8 and here’s why. Recall why I sent back the first one. This scope has 13 mils available for wind. When I was done shooting, I checked where in that range my wind zero ended up. It’s near the left end again or 2 mils available left/11 mils available right. No where near center so looks like they’re still having issues there and I did forward that back to Arken. Hopefully these issues will be addressed/corrected as I am getting in line and ordering one of there SH-4 Gen 2 for a Bergara B-14R barreled action I’m getting in. I’m calling this one good as I’m not shooting way out these days and I like using the reticle for wind holds anyway. So I hope this was helpful and am really pleased with what I ended up with for what I paid, also keeping in mind it’s not a $2300 scope.
