SFP or FFP for LPVO on AK 47

Hi All,
I am considering putting up some kind of an lpvo with magnification between 1x6 to stretch out a bit more on my ak 47. There is a popular and trusted channel on youtube (Ak operators union) which highly recommends A primary arms 1x6x24mm illuminated scope with ACSS reticle.

However this scope comes in both SFP and FFP. I am used to shooting long distance (mile plus) on my AI 338 lapua with a FFP. I would never have it any other way than a FFP on a mile plus rifle. However, I am a bit unsure about a short range rifle like ak47. Heck, I dont even fully understand the diff between a FFP and a SFP as I never used an SFP. Can someone share some knowledge on which type of scope I should go for my AK...SFP or FFP with reasons?

For that scope use the SFP model. The reticle has not been specifically designed to be used well at 1x with FFP. I have used the SFP and it is very good. Get the AK Master Mount to pair it with.

Many LPVO FFP optics will have a reticle that appears to be nothing more than a black dot at 1x so folks that run them (like me) may go with an illuminated FFP and essentially use the 1x setting as a basic red dot and then use the higher magnifications when a true visible reticle is needed.

I like SFP for this. FFP is too hard to see on low power and you don't need a fine reticle for an AK.

FFP is not really necessary on a 1-6, and doesn’t start being useful until 8-10x. I had and enjoyed the SFP ACSS 1-6 and had no issues with it.

The FFP LPVOs do have a completely different reticle that is designed for 1X and with the FFP the reticle is small at 1x acting and being about to be used like a red dot.

I have that scope on an milled Arsenal and it performs very well at distances up to 621 (farthest we had tried to shoot it).

Good choice.

I have a SFP primary Arms 1-8 with a griffin MIL reticle. Used it this weekend on my AUG for a local zombie 3 gun match. AK, filling a fairly comparable role as an AUG, would be perfectly fine with the SFP, and would benefit from the lighter weight associated with going that route. I've used RS reg stuff and it's pretty nice and quality gear, but the less weight and height on a side rail, the better, regardless of manufacturer.

The holdovers at max magnification are pretty good, and at lower mag, they really dont matter too much as you probably wont be using them except to find height over bore for close in shots. Very rarely are you ever inbetween max and min magnification on an LPVO, its usually all or nothin, and anything inbetween IF you use it will probably not need much holdover anyway

Edit: I added some pics of my PA 1-8 W/ & W/O illumination and on 1x and 8x so you have a good idea what you're getting real world, keeping in mind that theres only a couple hundred ACSS reticles at this point lol. I also included an old AK with a previous gen 1-8 strike eagle which is very close in both size and weight, but overall I'd say less refined than the PA 1-8.

SFP all the way, i think anything that is lower than 10x should be SFP. With a AK47, you are not going to shoot pass 500 yards with any accuracy, so a SFP 6x is perfect.

Compared to FFP, a SFP scope will have constant reticle size and BDC holds are only valid at max magnification.

Go SFP for a LPVO for a minute of man rifle.
