Maggie’s SH Motorcycle Thread

I really like the concept of electric. Right now it's not competitive with ICE in general on adult size bikes. For my son who's 6, there is no ICE trials option that is very good, and the simplicity of electric is awesome for him. You can use the throttle to hold it, but it's a bit tricky. That's more an Oset thing than a fundamental fact of electric though. There are a few high end electric, adult-size trials bikes (EM, Mechanto/gasgas) that have really sophisticated controllers and in the case of the latter two transmissions and clutches. I find that the Oset's controller makes it difficult to get exactly the torque you want when you want it. Also in general the Oset quality falls somewhere between a Chinese pit bike and a proper trials bike. It's clearly the best option for a 6yr old trials rider in my view, but it's also clear that there's a lot of room for improvement. If you have kids I highly recommend them. Huge fun for them, no noise, and great skill development. My guy started riding the smallest Oset when he was 2, so at 6 he's a seasoned rider.

For general ripping around I have a friend with a Sur-Ron. He loves it. He also has a KTM 300 at the moment. From his perspective it's not a dirt bike alternative really but rather a complement. He says that if a bicycle is a phone and a dirt bike is a computer, it's an ipad. I haven't been on it yet.

I don't know anything about old Benellies but that looks awesome! With the cases open and some rust showing I'd definitely tear them down and replace all the bearings in the lower end. They'll likely be pitted. I'd also try and dig up the airbox for it.

Got all the miles out of this set. These are from two March's ago. About 16k miles (IIRC) from Pirelli PR4's on a '15 BMW R1200RT. The last bit of tread left went away FAST. And, yes, I know there plenty tread left on the sides but I do 100 miles of slab each day commuting. Almost time for another set and I need to remember how fast that last bit of tread wore.

You’re nuts. No way I’d let a front get that bad

I have rode Harleys for 40 years, and what I know about motorcycles is this, you need good lights, brakes, and tires........

Totally understand what was at stake with this and am not bragging, but rather admitting a mistake by posting this picture and trying to make into a sort of warning to other riders.. especially the ones with less experience. That last bit of tread just fricking EVAPORATED. The threads showed up between home and the shop. It was really very surprising how fast that rubber disappeared over the last miles.

Haha yeah once the cap is gone, it goes fast.. seems like you can do an infinite burnout on a new one, but once you see cords, it’s a couple seconds. Lol

So many people waste all that good tread on the edge of the tires.... 😀

My last street bike. 98 Kawasaki ZX11 that I modified. She was a rocket. She died a miserable death on March 8, 2008 when someone ran a light. Haven't ridden since.
