He refers to you as a "former Marine". Guess he doesn't know the concept of once a Marine always a Marine.

I think former Marine is acceptable, they take issue with Ex-Marine.

The Marine Corps League had some discussion on 'Ex Marine' at the National Convention level back in the 90's. I was at several of them as a Department officer in the Department of New Jersey (Department Competitive Shooting Chairman) back then.The final result was the adoption of the term "Former Marine", or Formerly Active Marine; so the reference specified is actually correct, as much as such things count."

I also get really touchy when folks don't capitalize "Marine".
