I've been thinking about selling a couple of my custom Colt 1911's and I'm not sure how the process goes. I know I have to send it to an FFL and the buyer has to suppply with one to ship it to. But does that FFL have to be faxed to me email ext. And do I have to take the FFL paper work with me when i ship and and I'm assuming I need to verify that it is an actual FFL before i ship it eiher by internet or by a phone call. If I am close to being right or there's more to it please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Shipping handguns???

The buyer would provide you with a copy of the FFL where he wants you to ship the gun. Just put a copy of the FFL along with a bill of sale (that you type up) in the box with the gun when you send it off. Simple process.

I have never confirmed a FFL before. Not a bad idea but might not be nessacary. The FFL is a offical looking document.

Re: Shipping handguns???

I usually double check online. Put a copy of FFL in the box and your info- some FFL's want a copy of license, some just need your name etc for who the gun is from.

Re: Shipping handguns???

Make certain the FFL you're sending to will accept from a private party as some FFL's will not. Personal preference only on their part, not a requirement by law. If they accept from private parties they will want some photo ID from you in most cases.
