How many of you would smoke the guy with the knife?

For a bit of context, knife guy cut off biker guy. Who approached who first after they came to stop is unknown but knife dude drew first.

Lots of ignorant comments on youtube, most assuming that one needs to get cut or at least lunged at before using deadly force in self defense.

As soon as knife guy approaches in a threatening way with a knife at the ready, he's bought and paid for according to my state's statutory and case law and shooting him would have been 100% justified use of force.

Biker dude showed much more restraint than I would have. For certain I would have done a bill drill on him as soon as he took a swing with the knife.

Should have arrested the woman screaming in the background.

Bike boy was an idiot for chasing him down/following him.

Not unlike one SH member who did the same a told his story on here. 🙄

And yeah, comes at you with a knife?
Gun out, command to stop if possible or light that idiot up.

And yeah, its all split second decisions you live with the fall out from.

And biker boy was SUPER slow on his draw from his magic vest…..

As soon as that knife came out at that distance there's only 1 thing a person does... intending to commit great bodily injury or kill. Smoke'em. Finito.

If someone cuts you off, let them go. If you cut someone off (asshole) and someone follows you: keep driving, make few turns, shake'em off.

Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

following the driver is asking for a confrontation.
But thats the new’s story, we don’t “know” that he did follow him, yet. Biker had bravado because he had a pistol. Had dude been actually serious about that knife, biker woulda been dead. Coulda read a book in the time it took him to get it out, i am surprised he didn’t cock it too.

Saved biker dude from going to jail with knife guy....

You assume that police are unable to discern what happened without video evidence. If you were right, there would be dozens of people in my state going to jail every month for defending themselves. But there aren't.

Yes, video is nice. It's absolutely not necessary.

It's my guess that they would have both gone to see the judge because of conflicting stories.

You don't know that the biker followed the other driver. It's likely that the driver cut off the biker and the biker continued in the direction he was originally going, eventually both ending up at a stop sign, traffic light, or some such.

I intentionally did not bring up that point because that's not the point of this thread.

But yes actively following someone is dumb.

Silly of the biker to follow the car, which is antagonizing.

Very silly of the car dude to pull out a knife.

Coming at a guy with a knife (an obvious attempt to cause grievous harm) is grounds for getting smoked. But it sounds like this whole incident could've been easily prevented.

And that half-hearted swing with the knife was for intimidation factor.
    Dumb!

I wish they’d stop referring to every lame with a bike a “biker” yes they ride, biker no. I’m not one and it annoys me.

My guess this is how it would have turned out if he started firing.

At that range if ya miss with 7, more likely just going to be more missed, and without qualified immunity, no good backstop, that’s a lot of rounds to be sending off to who knows where.

I’ve had one person try to fight me on the road, followed me to a stop light, traffic didn’t allow for me to just blow the light and escape, I saw him get out of his car, mine was already locked (always enable auto locks), I had my gun low on my lap, kept the vehicle in drive, and all I said was “walk away” like 2 or 3 times, dude had his chest all pumped out and tense like a peacock or something, ended up walking his fat ass back to his car and fucking off.

Never in my mind did I debate getting out of my vehicle.

Had that been on my bike, I’d have just lane split, blown the red light, and got the fuck out of there.

My life, bank account, and clean record, are worth more to me than my ego 🤷‍♂️

What we assume is that given a chance some officers don't care and just up their arrest score because they can.

No penalties for a swing and a miss.

that would require proof the biker "followed him"....and wasnt simply going about his way....

even then, its generally not illegal to "follow" someone on public roadways...
It's not as if the guy on the bike FORCED the guy with the knife to pull over.
But I have no doubts there were some single-finger salutes and yelling involved.
It looks like both escalated the confrontation.
Poor choices could have had way more serious outcomes for all involved.

A knife is a very lethal instrument. Plenty of videos and photos on gore and shock sites showcasing what blades can do to flesh... So yeah, one gets pulled on me, I am gonna assume that my time being alive is limited, and take appropriate action to rectify the situation...

It seems folks on motorcycles tend to go all road rage violent a lot quicker than many others.
Somehow they seem to feel entitled that everybody needs to be super nice to them and get really upset when they aren't.
They also seem to have no clue about what blind spots are and seem to have no concern for staying out of them.

I for some reason have to wear a seat belt for my own protection or the men with guns will be taking money for me, but for some reason the motorcycle types seem to think they should ride with no helmet and then whine about things being dangerous for them.

If someone hits you while driving your car or truck it is not necessarily life threatening.
If someone in a car or truck hits or causes someone on a motorcycle to crash it is life threatening.

Well you shouldn’t have to wear a seatbelt, nor should they have to wear a helmet, that’s a shakedown

But I will admit, I watch lots of the moto madness videos on YouTube, lots of those bikers like to push right of way, I mean so you’re right, the other guy is wrong, you win 50M after the crash, you’re still paralyzed and shitting in a bag = Pyrrhic victory

Think it’s a ego demographic thing, when a car wants to be stupid or has a ego, I’m like “you win, I’m sure you’re da man, by all means go ahead”

But that’s putting one’s life and quality of life’s value, above that of their ego.

Well, first thats because the seatbelt law is not about safety, its about being able to pull someone over for no reason at all. Second, a seatbelt on a bike thats going down will make a lot more of a mess of the rider than separating from the 500-800# of steel. But you knew that already. Carry on.

I remember something about the insurance industry pushing for it, but after their lobbyists got it passed, insurance rates didn’t go down.
