So here's the deal. I ordered an A5 stock from McMillan that I'll be receiving in a couple weeks. The stock already has pillars installed and I asked the McMillan rep. if I should also bed the stock, his answer was no and to just bolt the rifle in and shoot it. Every stock that I've seen that has pillars installed has also been bedded and I feel that there must be a reason for gunsmiths to do this or they wouldn't. So should I just do as the Rep. tells me or should I go ahead and bed the stock too? Thanks!

There's a bunch of threads on this and mcmillan jumped in and gave their view on it. Read that, it's a good toilet thinker. But you don't have to bed it. If you're handy and meticulous you can bed it yourself with no problems. But if you're getting sub moa already then it's up to you. I did it to get rid of that "what if" scenario in my mind.
