In the first part of the movie where He is engaging the helicopter with the 50 BMG ........ The rifle looks like a
barett 82 Semi-auto yet he cycles it like a bolt gun??? Anyone else notice that or am I just crazy?

Thanks for that now I can sleep well tonight. Wouldn’t of ever thought about
It not cycling the action completely. I was thinking along the lines the rifle needed a good
Cleaning.

...or maybe he was using one of our SASRs... piece of shit would jam every two or so rounds. Used to have to kick the bolt to the rear to get it to cycle lol.

Super Awesome Sniper Rifle (what I called ours in 06)
...Or...
Special Application Scoped Rifle (if you wanna be like a nerd and stuff)

SASR is the 50

Shit, now that I’ve rewatched that scene, his SASR experience might be the most realistic part of that whole dumpster fire of a film.

Thanks for that, another thing I noticed after just watching it again was..... they said they knew How Wahlberg was as alive because the guys at the boathouse who were about to kill the FBI agent were shot at 200 yds with a 22lr..... I don’t think they would be dropping like that??? And clearly he looked like he was 40 yds away tops.

Yes he did play a good part in that movie I will admit but a lot of that movie was a joke also.
THAT MOVIE WAS A BLESSING FROM SNIPER JESUS ITSELF! HOW DARE YOU CALL THE 1990 INSTANT HIT CLASSIC MASTERPIECE A JOKE!

THERE WAS NOTHING ON STARLIGHT SO HE SWITCHED TO THERMAL! HE VAPORIZED HOSTILES! HE DIED DOING WHAT HE LOVED. HOW DARE YOU SIR.

lol

If you watch closely movies like Band of Brothers, you'll notice the actors manually cycling their M1s and M1 Carbines. Blanks often do not have enough "oomph" to cycle the bolts. In training we regularly use blanks mixed in with live rounds in our AR magazines to induce a "fail to fire" so we have to deal with a malfunction on the fly. We don't use blank adapters, so the bolt won't cycle.

"I was the weapons coordinator on this film. The Barrett used was a real one firing blanks. After multiple strafing runs by the helicopter and the amount of dust and crap floating in the air from all the explosions, the gun did malfunction a few times on multiple takes. Unfortunately the way it was edited together made it seem like he was cocking it after every shot."

Little did he know, the system was operating as normal lol

You want to see bad... watch the TV series! I managed one excruciating episode and that was plenty.

Dude I heard the show was a raging dumpster fire. Is it worth watching and turning into a drinking game? If I play by myself, I’m almost guaranteed to win.

Oh man... it was indeed a oxygen fueled, raging, tires and baby diapers dumpster fire. It was so bad that everyone hated it, not just people "in the know".

I dunno - you’d be drinking like it was Gatorade in the Sahara if you did!

No, the show was ungodly horrible. The movie was okay, what do you expect from Hollyweird. The books were much better. Whoever the technical advisor for Stephen Hunter is has some experience.

Lots of interesting ballistics concepts and ideas that were explained in detail while weaving them into the story were glossed over with a sentence in the movie.

Left a lot of significant revelations being relegated to 'heres more bad guys' in the movie ?

You can’t deny that having Levon Helm, legendary drummer for The Band, explain conspiracy theories was not almost as good as those headlights!!

Hey Ridley, got any Beemans?

RIP, Levon! The third bright spot in a stupid movie

Cheers, Sirhr

PS... read the books. Hunter does write a good yarn!!!

Yes, Bob Lee Swagger novels are uniformly awesome, written by a real "gun guy" ... who understands them and their use. You will find yourself far less frustrated reading the books when it comes to gun details. Stephen Hunter knows his stuff. I admit I did not keep reading after Bob Lee got too old to be the main character.

I caught some “behind the scenes” thing on this one time and I believe it was because of all the sand that kept getting on the action or something was causing it not to cycle so he had to keep manually cycling it for the scene.
Movie is absolute trash anyways. I like how at the end of the movie all of a sudden he is sniping left handed (which Mark is left handed) but at the beginning he’s a righty. More Hollywood fuckery.

I really didn’t notice right away how the gun was cycling I was too involved watching the helicopter which was a nice part I thought.

As far as the 50 goes, pretty sure they just did that to amp up the drama and urgency of the scene. Jeez boys it’s a freakin movie, just sit back and try not to take it so seriously lol

Why not take it somewhat seriously though? The gun grabber liberal machine sure as hell well will. Numerous examples can be cited where politics referenced movies (and even worse, Youtube).

I had it on in the background while reloading a year or so ago and when they started talking about the shit involved to take a long range shot it was a comedy show. You’d think they would at least do their homework instead of purely making shit up on the fly.

Is that a nightforce with s&b elevation knob?

No shit, in the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare, they spent so much time on appearances and realistic character/weapon models...yet they put an S&B illumination knob on a NF ATACR...on the AX50 lol. I thought it was funny.

Regardless, Shooter has given me eye cancer.
