Went out and did some long range stuff yesterday. Ran into something I haven’t encountered before. I ran out of elevation on the turret.
I built a 25 GT shooting 131 grain Ace at 2800 FPS. And decided to take it to our long rang spot. We can’t do a mile so we did 1500 and 1940. 1500 was great. Moved to 1940 which was about 100 yards past transonic. The drop here was 23.4 mils. I could get 20.1 out of my razor so I dialed 19.4 and held 4 on the reticle. This put me (at around 25 power almost at the bottom of the field view). It was a blurry picture. Would this affect the point of impact? Or was the bullet destabilizing? The groups opened up to 2+ mils. It might have been me but I’ve made this shot with the 25 creed (20 mil drop and supersonic at impact)

Possibly just conditions you can’t account for.
Some days my 7 saum is a hammer at 2000+ and other days it’s all over the place, often on the same day.
I normally shoot in steep walled valleys and wind is often wonky.

Could be some parallax exaggeration from being maxed out?
I usually stay at least a mil from the turret limits and hold till I run out of reticle then put the macro on.

This happens to me if I try to go past 1000 yards with my 308 using a Nikon FX1000. It's a 308 round so it probably just disappears after 1000 yards anyway, but I can ping 1000 yards on repeat. Then if I go to 1200... I never ever hit the target and I have to use turret to almost max and some reticle. I can never see where it hits... I don't consider it safe so I don't do it anymore. But... I think at the top end of the spin on the turret you might lose some accuracy on some scopes, especially the lower dollar ones. I'd pull back on the turret even more and hold over on the reticle more.

We shot another guys 300 PRC it seemed to be unaffected by the wind but then it is a completely different animal.

I was thinking that it might be the parallax thing as well, maybe I should’ve back down the magnification?

I wish I could have got a hit in the middle of the steel to look at the hole, and verify the stability but the one hit I had hit the strap and the steel, couldn’t really tell.

I was kinda thinking this might be the issue as I was so far out of the center of the optic. I should have included it’s a Gen 2 razor 4.5-27. When I did this with the 25 creed I was able to dial all the dope and it was accurate. The actual image was a little blurry as I held over farther from the center. I might try backing down the magnification and holding more next time. Thanks
