Building a T top portable bench off a 36 inch saw horse.

I am planning for 36 inch width on the top end and either 12 inches if made a T or 24 inches if right hand use only.

How long should I make the top? I was thinking 4 ft (48inches)? Where should I put the notch (no idea what the area is called)?

We have 3 shapes at our range.
1. "U" shaped, 48" square. 18" deep belly 24" wide. 12" on each arm.
2. "T" shape/ambi. 4" square with 18" deep belly, 16" wide. 16" arm.
3. Right hand only is 40" wide, 48" long. Belly and arm and as "t" shape.

Hope that makes sense and helps.
