in reality they turned out nicer then I anticipated. We were concerned about wind on the hill top, but they are so heavy, it will have to be a tornado.
The table on the plateau is facing directly where we are planning a 1K yd target gong on the hillside. Sort of in the valley area. Just to the slight right in the clearing (across the way) is our 600 yrd one.

Been working on trying to come up with a stable design for a portable shooting bench. Searched the web and lots of good ideas but most either show them too heavy for lugging to range or have legs that require welding (don't have access to). I have glued a couple pieces of plywood together for a top now looking for ideas on either folding legs or legs that can be easily removed for transport. huntsman22 like your bench, how are legs attached?

Built this one a couple of weeks ago for hunting camp.

I built this one with some crap I had in the shop and for legs I used an old folding leg saw horse I had. Legs fold up inside of frame so pretty easy to transport. I glued two pieces of 3/4 plywood together for top so it's a little heavy to use in the woods but works great for the range.

Not the best picture but here's what I built. The pic is back from November of me and my grandpa checking zero on the slug guns. It's nice to be able to hook it up to the 4 wheeler and pull it to where its needed!

Thanks! It actually was only about $150 to build...

1" 11ga square tubing
5/8 round for axle
5/4 treated deck boards
Lags through the bottom of the tube up into the board
And a couple 50cc ATV tires we already had

How do you tolerate shooting with that horrible scenery? I bet it's hard to find an excuse to head out there to shoot. Also I hate you....we are currently stuck at 300 yards.

I think I’d like a bench that is U shapped at the back that you sit into. That way it would be ambidextrous and also have “area” for stuff on both sides. It seems like it would keep you square to the gun and be more like the prone and positional shooting we do. Are any of you building this style instead of the L or T shape that are so common? The one down side I see is the need for four legs if made mobile like I’d like.

Made this one a couple years back. It got planted at our deer camp.

This was my first time using kiln dried treated lumber, the stuff does not move or shrink. A little more expensive, yes, but well worth it in my opinion.

I like the concrete top, wish I would have gone that route.

Dig it up, invert it, screw in some anchors/wire mesh and cast the underside with concrete. The additional mass makes a big difference in overall stability IMO. I like the integrated rifle rack. Clever.

Wood doesn't survive my local climate well between the heat, UV and dryness it all falls apart, and something about the bugs in the soil also will rot the legs off flush with the ground in short order. Whatever the bugs are they eat toxic creosoted railroad sleeper.
