Advanced Marksmanship shooting intervals

Hey guys,

i did some searching online and everywhere i can think of for this .....

my question is whats the interval that most shoot with reloads to find accuracy ? with the reloads ?

lets say i have about 60 rounds of ammo reloaded various loads how long should it be or take for me to shoot all this ?

should the barrel be kept on the cooler side or can it be ran a little warmer ?

i have a remington 700 sps tactical in a 20" barrel with a 1-12

I dont know anyone who monitors their barrel temp to the degree, if you have a quality heavy target style barrel there is much less effects from the heat. Sporter barrels heat up more quickly. Most guys I have heard try not to let it get too hot to touch.

Larger diameter barrels serve as heat sinks. This simply means that it takes longer to 'fill' them with heat, and longer to 'drain' them of heat.

It has absolutely no bearing on what temperature their throats reach, how quickly they do it, and how much damage is done to them.

A rapid firing cadence heats their throats pretty much just as fast as it does to a thin barrel. But the thin barrel's heat reaches the surrounding air sooner, and dissipates sooner because of that. Otherwise that throat is getting just as hot, just as quick. Only with the heavier barrel, it's holding that heat longer.

There are no reprieves from the laws of thermodynamics.

If you want your barrel's throat to last, heavy barrel or thin barrel alike, space out your shots.

The NRA Highpower Slow Fire Stage is where the larger volumes of competitive fire are expended. They allocate up to a minute between shots, and most shooters use less than that.

This time limit is a compromise between burning barrels, and having matches run beyond sunset.

Use your best judgement accordingly. When I can't hold the back of my palm aganst my barrel indefinitely, I'm running hotter than is best for my barrel's throat.

To me it depends, since I'm mostly a high power shooter, I go in strings, In rappid fire, I shoot two strings of of 10 rounds. So I figure a couple sighters, followed by two strings of rappid fire, then I check targets, play around a bit, then do the same thing at prone rappid, this would normally take the time one has between shooting 200 and moving back to 300.

Slow fire, same thing, 20 min to fire twenty shots, Same with my 1000 yard gun.

Now with my hunting rifles, (I shoot Wincherter featherweights for hunting) I shoot 5 rounds, then play with my pistol a while, and then maybe shoot another 5 rounds. I cant picture a case where I would need more then 5 rounds hunting.

So basicly I would say, regarding shooting intervals, Shoot 'em like you are going to shoot them in a match, (or what ever you are practincing for.
